Yea ditch French, 1 more AS wont make that much difference and it is likely you wouldn't get a good grade. At least 4 of my friends at uni (who are all more clever than me) got worse grades in their A levels simply because they did a language and it was impossible.

Also the marking for my AS spanish was abysmal and once we got our papers remarked everyone went up at least 2 grades.

Plus learn how to spell levels :p ;)

Jesus christ how did I not notice that typo?! Good thing I'm not doing English AS :P

I always thought it went the other way round, the uni would say how many points they want, then you get them, if you got an extra D, but you got say, 4 A's, that shouldnt matter right?

Also if the whole class is getting really low grades in one unit, clearly the teacher is duff.

Teacher isn't duff, he's fairly good, it's just us that arn't great, we are the lower of the 2 sets doing AS french, the upper set got Cs and above, and the lower set that I am in got 1 A, 3 Bs, 2Cs, 2Ds, 5Es and 3Us, just looked on the table we got about retakes and stuff. He's a great guy though, he is fully aware that I don't like, didn't choose, and have very little motivation for, the subject. We still get on very well. If I could talk to him about dropping it only it would not be a problem, but I think I'm going to have to go to head of department, and she isn't the nicest of people.

Do not declare the result.

In my AS examinations I got CCCE due to not revising for them. I declined the E and applied to University with the 3 C's. However, I was predicted 3 A/B grades - thus I got all the places I applied for.

I would take the exam and not declare it if the result is not a good one.

You aren't going to get in anywhere simply taking 2 AS levels, although I may have misread your post.

You cannot decline grades anymore.
Starting from this year.

OK I will reluctantly agree. I guess my real qualm is with people who retake more than once. I'd get 100% if I got to sit the exam 100 times.
I think universities do discriminate against such people. I know someone who was applying for medicine, retook three times and was rejected by everyone, dispite having the requirement grades.

Well.... except Keele.

Hmm interesting. I'm retaking one of my Electronics modules as my teacher quite literally didn't teach it. I got a D in that module (besides a few other people, everyone else got "ungraded"). I don't really want to resit if universities are going to look down upon it. I can't help having a naff teacher.

Does anyone have more info on this?

Yeah I guess. I don't know what I'm going to achieve by learning the whole module myself though. B if I'm lucky? C being realistic?

Universities will judge you on a combination of:

  1. The subjects you take
  2. The grades you have so far achieved at them
  3. Your personal statement
  4. Your school
  5. Your predicted grades
If your current grades are lower than your predicted grades, I assume a university will acknowledge that you will be retaking them. AFAIK universities do not look down upon resitting, unless you are talking of Oxford and Cambridge (which I assume you are not).

OK thanks lads. I think I will phone the universities to see how they look upon resits just to reassure myself. Universities are Kent and Sussex, not quite Oxford material :)
