Hello chaps.

Making a change around, have ordered a Surface Pro 3, so was looking for something like this to work externally.

New to NAS, so not sure if this is right for what i want\ need.

Was thinking i can hook the above to my Virgin Media wireless router, then i assume my SP3 can network files folders etc to it back and forth?

And also network to my Xbox One/ DLNA for movie playback?

My tv is also WiFi able but i dont see me using that side of it.

Have I got this jist of it right?

Yes, you'll be able to share files and stream video using the WD NAS.

You may wish to look at a NAS with more than one bay, in order to gain data redundancy. Will you be using the NAS to backup important data?

No not important stuff, I backup to another typical USB drive that I keep at a friends house, this would be day to day stuff.

Its more about supporting the Surface for a proper place to keep movies I download, dropping them onto the drive to play over to the XO, pictures, music etc, really day to day stuff. Will do graphic work etc on it obviously, but like I said that would be routinely dropped to my main backup, like to keep two copies if I can.

Just to add it arrived and was stupid easy to set up, worked with everything on the network and streaming perfectly to the Xbox One.

Very happy with it.
