You don't need the noctua if your not going to be overclocking. Highly recommended though with that system. If your still set on keeping it at stock remove the noctua from the spec :-)

Two problems, I still need some pocket change and a decent monitor! :D

Can you revise your suggestions based on this? :)
 
You lose the Dx10 card here which will see a massive drop in gaming performance. I built a system like this 2 weeks ago though and the card is very good :-)

The DS3P is probobly a better choice for motherboard here (see previous spec) @ £5 more.

So your a fan of Intel's over AMD?

Looks a decent setup. I think I will have a look at few configurations then you can give me your opinion on them :)

With me having an ATI card installed, do I not want a Xfire board rather than Sli?

Bare in mind it's been over two years since I built my last PC, so I am upto date with all the latest hardware.

At this moment in time the Intels outperform the AMD's by double for the price they are. The system I am using to post this message is a AMD X2 and its very slow compared with the other system in my house.

The DS3P is a xfire board which was in my first spec.

Edit: The AMD route.. I would go for a cheap 939 socket pc.

What can we shave off the system to get its price to say a maximum of £620?

Also, the setup is missing a sound card, so say add £25.

Hmm, im going to go get a shower, then I'll post up a suggestion, see what you think!

Your asking a lot for a gaming system with a monitor and a sound card at that budget. I will see what i can do.

Well I class my old PC as a gaming system, and that was a AMD Athlon 2800+, with 17" Monitor, 1GB RAM and a ATI Radeon AGP X1600.

So, any increase on that is a gaming system in my eyes :) lol
 
Do you really need a dedicated sound card?

I've been running without one and just using the motherboards one for a while now. If you only using desktop speakers/headset you won't really notice a difference.

I don't essentially need one no, but I was always told to try and use an external soundcard to reduce the workload on the motherboard, thus giving an overall performance increase. Old habbits, perhaps newer motherboards don't have any issue with onboard sound.

Although, a reasonable Creative card can be bought for only £25.

But, I am flexible, so in answer to your question, yes, I can put up with onboard sound if needs be.

I will go get this shower, and then pop back, and post up a couple of my setups.

Is that Gigabyte board, a decent board? ... I seem to recall Gigabyte not being particularly favoured a few years back .... but again, I've not built a PC in yonks so things have probably changed!

From what I've seen over the past few days everyone recommends buying that board so it must be good :)
 
So that motherboard is decent board?

Is it SATAII compatible?

Is the Case all metal/aluminium? Is the case a good case?

Will I need any additional fans/cooling solutions?

I'm in a similar position to you with regard to motherboard choice, but everyone has recommended the gigabyte board! It is sata II compatible.
