Okay I hope this is okay, anyways I work part time at Tesco whilst I study at University. Well I've done some overtime. My base rate per month is £450. Well this last month I did some extra overtime on Sundays where you get 1.5 times the normal pay. So my wages for this month is £1,296.36. My tax code is 647L. I have been charged £256 for tax.

£157.21 for N.IEES

and finally

£182.93 for N.I.ERS

My pay slip for this month shows overtime as £555.94
Sunday overtime £169
Bank Holiday overtime £86

My final wages is £626

So I've pretty much lost half of my money, is this right? I never used to pay N.I.ERS only N.IEES so why this time do I have to pay both. Usually I pay about £20 for NI.

Good Luck working out a Tesco payslip as I've not met Anybody that can yet. :p Yes I am serious. :(

I have learnt one thing about Tesco - The Higher you go the Dumber they get. :(
An inherent problem with Tesco & other big corps/businesses is that they cannot sack people, Crap Managers/Asst Managers & team leaders just get moved.
My percentage so far is that 5 out of 6 Managers suck **** through a straw jammed up a Camels ****. All of them wandered about teh store until they were moved to the next store. :p
The 1 decent one was poached by Asda. :D + :p:p:p

Okay guys I just noticed something that hasn't been on my previous pay slips ever.

It says Loan: £372.79

I can assure you I have not taken any loans.

So they have deducted this from my wages, that's why my final wage is so low.

Student Loan repayments?

647L means you can earn 6470 a year before tax. So anything construed as possibly going over your 647L tax exemption for the year is going to get taxed at a higher rate.

Also, the fact you earned 1,300 this month suggests you might earn more than 15k a year, which is why they start charging you loan repayments "pro rata". Thats what happened to me anyway.

You're joking, so it's as if I worked for free then lol.

Nah I'm not saying that's the complete answer, because if you have actually been taxed that much then it's definitely wrong somewhere else too.

You are a student, so you shouldn't be getting taxed that much anyway. I'm not a tax man, though, so can't go into any more detail. You just gotta call your tax office, or ask the person who deals with it at work.
