A month off work and £2k to spend, where would you go?

I'm far more interested in looking at the 2 billion year old rock and trying to see if I can see the endemic species scurrying around their natural habitat with the wind and water the only noises, rather than horns, traffic and people shouting
Me too, but for that Australia sucks. You can list all it's unique sites in two lines and the rest is sand, flies and bumping into ex convicts.
You can stand still in Africa and have 100 times all that walk/fly/swim by in a day. Seriously you see far less in a zoo. Plus you get to see animals killing each other.
I'd imagine S.America is possibly more so.

Not really. I have a list as long as my arm of things to see on just the west coast of Australia... That was a small selection... Have you been to Africa? A significant portion of that is "nothing" as well. You can drive for hours through desert between highlights. That's the way of many natural wonders. That doesn't make it bad (Namibia was stunning, even when spending 8 hours driving through NOTHING, flat plains with gravel and the occasional piece of scrub. If you're lucky you'll see a few ostridge in the distance). I'll let you know how Australia is in April and compare it to a similar length and type of trip I did to Africa last April...

You can go to a game reserve sure, but that's not Africa anymore. Outside the reserves and national parks all you're likely to see is cattle, each game reserve/national park could easily take a day go drive between. Much like Auz, areas of interest and areas of no interest. Same with the US and Europe.

I'd have to recommend anywhere in Asia or America. You can go to europe for very little and its like an 2-3 hour flight away. Plus you always hear on the news about what is going on in europe but very little on asia or tbh america. If you want to go on a trip to remember go to america or asia as asia will be a completely different experience to anywhere in europe and america is always fun.

And people write whole books on what to see in one State in America, Aus is overated. It has naff all animal life, it's culture is pretty much 'western' and frankly New Zealand looks prettier.
All I've been shown so far to change my mind is some rock and some coral :(

About a third of Zambia is national park and you are falling over animals no matter where you go, it's only three days drive in length.

Say you had a month off work in autumn and £2k spare cash, and wanted to take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Asking because I'm thinking of doing this. Last year was my first out of college, I wasted all my holiday and regret it, so this year want to go on one big adventure. Trouble is I know nothing about the world and have no idea where to go. Have heard people say how great Europe, Asia and North America are but no specifics on what there actually is to do there.

Thailand and live like a god damn King!

Single with a whole month off and cash in your pocket.. just wow... I'd set off and see where each day takes me.. No plans.. just take it as it comes and see how far I get. Life's too full of boundaries, rules and plans.. so what an ideal way to have an adventure.

[price checks wife and kids in MM] :p

Thanks for the replies everyone. Huddy, thats pretty much what I've been thinking, but need a good starting point. Will have a look at Thailand as it's been mentioned a few times.

Plus 1 for Asia. I'm a bit biassed as my wife is Malaysian and we come all the time, but I absolutely love it. Arrived in Bangkok for the first time yesterday. It's a bit anti-government-protesty at the moment, lol, but still great. Level of girl hotness here is even better than anywhere else I've been :). Definately will come back to Bangkok again and also see more of Thailand.

Drive around europe something like this, estimated petrol cost is about £900 leaving you with over a grand to spend on hostels/hotels or whatever
