A move from Windows to Macintosh

Is it THAT annoying though?

Afterall, if you buy a mac expecting it to perform exactly like a PC then you made the wrong mistake in the first place.. mouse pointer or otherwise. Then again, if you really are used to the mouse you use in XP and you fear change, well thats your perrogative.. I for one just got used to it :p ;)

I don't think I would be too fussed with that. As long as it moves thats all that matters :)

I'm going to have to get a (wireless?) mouse, even if the trackpad is bigger on the MBP, I think it would drive me mad as i've quite big hands.
Whats the best mouse to get, is the Mighty Mouse the favourite?

Mighty Mouse isn't wireless, also, my friends died the other day. Seems the scrollballs aren't that sturdy.

There's a thread on here somewhere discussing bluetooth mice for Macs.

I have to say I've never noticed the mouse move differently to a Windows machine.

Does Apple's bluetooth mouse work with the MacBook's? I'd assume it would because it's bluetooth and doesn't require the computer to be a PPC or anything. It doesn't have the scroll feature though like the mighty mouse. If only they made a bluetooth mighty mouse.

Any mouse will work. I used to use a Mighty Muse but have now gone back to a wireless Apple mouse as I don't like the desk clutter of wires. I haven't noticed any difference except my other hand is busier on the keyboard - in fact I think I am more productive with my 1001 keyboard shortcuts that I nw know. :)

After advice on here I picked up a Logitech V270 Optical Bluetooth Mouse for 25quid. Doesn't match the Mac, but it works just fine and has a scroll wheel (which I'd struggle to live without). It's nice having Expose bound to the middle button too :)

This thread is good, I'm thinking about changing over to a MAC aswell, Windows over the last year has just made me angry, frustrated and rather hot flusted with problems. I have acctually been looking at apple mac G5's power pcs as i would like to play the odd game with it too. I have been acctually playing with some G5's Tiger OSX 10.4.6 today and im very impressed by the system. It just works out of the box.

Hello.

So it's come to that time. I've been waiting forever for Merom in MBP's, and I just can't be bothered anymore. So tomorrow i'm going into Apple Store Trafford and purchasing a MBP/ipod/nike+

However, i'm not opening the MBP until wednesday when i'm sure the Meroms arent coming. If they do come, and the box remains unopened, can I return it for a Merom?

Thank you all.

Ofcourse you can return it, doubt they will be out next week anyhow.

I took the plundge and bought a macbook 2ghz, this is my first mac and im in love with it already.

Hi friends,

Thanks for the reply paddyuk.
I gave Owen @ trafford a call, what a helpful chap.
He's reserved a glossy one for me, it's going to total about 1.5 so I expect he's happy to get the commission! jk

I had a chat to him about glossy vs matt. I do a lot of web design, but also reports etc in pdf. He suggested matt, is that fair?
He also said I can open it, they will replace her within 2 weeks of reciept for a new merom if it happens- no questions asked!

I can't wait, im buzzing!

Woo, nice to know they can replace/upgrade to the merom version (if it does come out within the next 2 weeks).

Personally, I've got the 2GHz Core Duo and 1GB RAM MacBook and it is sufficient for me - I multitask a lot with music, downloads, browser and office applications running.

Anyway, when you're talking about Matt and Glossy, I'm guessing it's screen? I find the glossy screen easy to use and no complains, I use to use a CRT and did use a Fujitsu Laptop with Matt screen, I find the Glossy one nicer and brighter when it comes to movie playback. No glare or reflection of lit items behind me, not seen one yet.

Hope you enjoy your MBP when you get one :)

I personally think the glossy screen is better then normal, especially on a mac, but suppose it is a personal choice.

dont think apple store staff get commission do they?, prices are the same elsewhere like online etc. not sure on this.

when i bought mine the guy in the shop just passed it onto something else so couldnt of been that bothered.

the glossy screen is definetly better for videos and gaming but i find it ok in things like word and safari.

I've just got a MacBook Pro 15"/2Ghz/2Gb RAM/100Gb HDD and I have to say the switch from Windows to Mac has been much better than expected, Everything works so well and it is really well thought out, like Expose, iTunes, iPhoto etc. All the little animation effects look great and add to the whole experience. The little touches are great, like the "breathing" sleep LED, backlit keyboard, colour coded USB ports, motion sensor for MacSaber! The only thing I'm missing at the moment is Winamp and the hash key :( .
I also got myself an AirTunes thing at the same time which is great, I can sit in bed on the web with my big speakers pumping out the tunes!

Note:
Shift 2 on mine = @
shift 3 on mine = #
shift 4 on mine = $

And my keyboard number above displays
@€

£
3

$
4

How odd is that!?
