Not for example if the overall theme is people, then it can all go in the people thread.

If there is no actual 'theme' and they are all a mix of everything yet are still a 'set', they should probably go in the miscellaneous thread.
I think the most common one where I would be undecided is macro and wildlife.
A lot of wildlife is photographed in macro. Unless macro would be all insects and wildlife is bigger stuff.

Just let the poster decide. If we all start getting all anal about where a photo belongs rather than looking at the photo itself, then there's not much hope is there.

On the subject of clearing things up do we still need the sticky to the OCUK Shop camera section even though there are no cameras available from OCUK and haven't been for a while? Seems like it's just wasting space.

Hmm...

So if I have a photograph of a Bee, what do I post it in? Macro? Nature? Wildlife?

If I have a photograph of a field of Poppies, does it go into Nature or Landscapes?

If I have a photograph of a Lion, does it go into Nature or Wildlife?

:)

Lastly where is the Thread for fast things like Cars, Aircraft and Trains? :)

My opinion:

  • Wildlife + nature (also includes macro)
  • Landscape + architecture
  • Abstract + creative (also includes some macro)
  • Portraits + weddings
  • Sports + vehicles (aircraft, trains etc)

Wherever takes your fancy. To be honest when you take a photo you know why you're taking it and what you're aiming to do so picking a genre shouldn't be that difficult. I only saw these threads as examples, I'd imagine they can be combined and renamed if required. Additional threads can be created by anyone, links can be updated and if they all use [PIC THREAD] as the subject prefix they're dead easy to find.

Don't particularly like this new idea. It is a PITA clicking on different threads to see everyones photos. Much better when there was one thread for generally posting shots. I knew where I was up to viewing wise.

I prefer the new dedicated threads, as others have said some of us are only really interested in things like landscapes etc, however I sometimes like reading threads on portraits/nature etc for the gear used as I find it quite interesting.

The old thread got too filled up with bits of everything, which in turn meant if you wanted to find something it took forever to do.

I don't really care what is tried, but would it not be an idea to have a similar layout to TP? Have a photography section on the boards, but have a sub section under the photography section for each style of photography? That way you'll have clear layouts and threads will not get lost with people having to bump them all the time. Surely that would be easier from a forum stand point too.

I just prefer that idea as if you're in a rush or like me, on a break in work when I check the forums, if an idea pops to mind I like to quickly navigate to a sub section.

A good example is the glamour section on TP. I'm so jealous of some peoples ability to master lighting. It really intrigues me, and often I'll forget to look at the person in the image and spend ages trying to figure out how it was lit :D
