A new shiny forum

Super/mega/uber - put it this way anything that costs £40m+ to build and costs a few million a year to run is likely to be called that! :D

Most expensive yacht I've worked on was just shy of $300m and costs over $1m a month to just run let alone use.

You may have guessed, I love boats !

Will be spending a lot of time in this section.

Oh and I am a marine engineer by trade, specialising in Merc, Mariner and Mercruiser, so any of you guys with issues, ill try to help.
 
I've been known to go for an occassional paddle in a kayak round the beaches of Sydney Harbour but I can't see me spending much time here.

Anyway, why oh why is there not a seperate music forum? Surely there are more people into music than water sports?

It's amazing quite how many people come into a sub forum to read a thread just so they can then post that they don't want to read or post in the sub forum.

If nothing else you forget that a lot of people that post at OCUK came here initially because of an interest in the forums. If Spie and the team build a vibrant boating sub forum they are likely to bring in new members and a community of people that are likely to have enough disposable income to indulge a sport / hobby like watersports and boating.

I'd imagine those would be just the sort of regular forum users OCUK would like to build a relationship with and turn into new customers.

I do wonder sometimes if people forget these forums are an extension to a business and not just a free place to hang out with their clique of mates.

It was my old job - I used to work on superyachts for a company specialising in installing IT / Telcoms systems on these yachts - quite a niche market. It grew to doing general Entertainment systems too. IT was good fun, travelled around the world, spent most of my life living out of a suitcase - but very disruptive to my personal life, and work became my life. Also, you get an understanding of how the mega wealthy live. Owning a couple of Ferraris, and a few holiday homes around the world, is nothing compared to what these guys are about! I was spoilt, had lots of fun, but didn't have much of a life outside work. Can give you more info if you're interested of course. :)

Ever worked on Princess Yacht's ? What do you think of them ?
 
Surely this forum would be better renamed to something like "Watersports and Outdoor Pursuits".

So it could encompass camping, walking, watersports, tents, outdoors gear, caravans, etc.

I'll even mod it for you if you like! ;)

Good idea, think it would keep the same kind of audience with similar interests but give a much wider base for threads.

No mod opinion yet? I really think this would be a smart move to save this particular section of the forum.
