A official Armed Assault thread

Considering it has a 400x400 KM2 island, tonnes of vegitation then adding soldiers, tanks etc with AI into the field one shouldent really expect it to run brilliantly.

OFP never ran well for me, but it was more than playable.
ArmA again doesnt run brilliantly, but it looks much better than OFP and is still playble.

Seems like Im the only one in this thread saying anything good about ArmA.
It has its issues sure, OFP did on launch, but theres nothing show stopping.

next patch will improve fps and allow us to turn of grass. Which I think will make a huge difference.

There are some stupid AI bugs that are game breaking. I had to do Dolres (the bridge mission) around 10 times just for the AI to cross the bridge and even then they didn't do in entirely properly. (the URAL always runs over at least one of his men)

Mission I'm on now requires me to pickup a squad and bring them to the fight but they won't board the truck.

You wonder how much testing they did. Really they must have come under pressure by their publisher. But I am confident BI will put right the bugs. They did the same with flashpoint and look how it turned out :)

I had loads of CTD's to start with, couldn't even complete a mission without the game crashing.

However, now it's working perfectly. There are issues with the AI, and a few bugs to work out, but nothing game stopping.

In fact I've just spent the last 2 hours in the mission editor trying out weapons and vehicles, and also practicing landing on top of buildings and dropping off troops in the blackhawk.

With a decent stick and throttle and a bit of practice you can really do some awesome moves in the choppers.

Got it, cannot play online.

No matter what I do, I get an 'Invalid CD key' error.

I bought a brand new, cellaphane wrapped copy of the game from a UK retailer this very afternoon. Surely this should work? :/

Got it, not had much time to play yet. Tried it quickly and unsurprisingly I died very quickly. Impressed so far......

Head over the ArmA forums for details on how to resolve this, you can either contact the publishers directly or one of the ArmA devs will verify your key for you.

Looking forward to the 1.05 patch myself, mainly so i can play the game in english instead of chezh (english client, chezh cd-key), currently the only way i can play the game in multiplayer with my flat m8's. Still think the game is great and the multiplayer missions/maps are great fun, personally i just love doing fast take off/landing with the little bird awesome fun.

The majority of the work on ARMA was done before a UK publisher was found for the game.

OFP was published my Codemasters. Many blamed it's bugs on the publisher rushing the developer BI. Given the bugged state of ARMA, it's now very hard to believe that excuse.

That said, I'm sure BI will have the game fixed and playable in short order. We just need some decent campaigns now.

ArmA is simulation, BF2 is arcade.

Nothing like each other.

BIS have stated they regret releasing the game so early.
I would think they had to release though as they were probably running out of money, they didnt find a publisher till very very late.

Slightly *on topic*.

Anyone know if that well known high street games retailer ( the biggest one :) ) is generally open on a Sunday and from what time?.

I'm nightshift tonight and tried picking up a copy of this locally to me yesterday, but no one had it. Going to have to go to the above mentioned store in the next town from me to get it this afternoon but I'm not sure if they are open Sundays?. Their website doesnt mention opening times, sadly.

Cheers. I know its a bit of a "naughty" question to ask here.

I've been playing it for most of the morning. Yeap, there is a definate FPS issue (especially when lying down), however it is still very playable. I'm loving it so far, although I'm starting to remember why OFP why so annoying at times.

shame the original ghost recon and its addons look better than that, i dont understand why games are released if even the very latest graphic card and top pc cant run them maxed out ? why release it then, god even ut2004 and hl2 and americas army blows this away and i was looking forward to this :(

The screenshot doesn't do it justice in my opinion, it loves bloomin' lovely on full. :D

And the original Ghost Recon? Versus that? Really?

I had a LAN t'other day with a few friends, played the demo a fair bit. Only major problem we had on three very different PC's was that in our LAN game, some random american chaps kept joining somehow. No flag to not advertise online, though we started in LAN so we assumed it wouldn't.

Anyhow, if you have a top range PC, download the demo on your undoubtably top range internet connection. Then compare to Ghost Recon.

This post is kind of two points, blended together, sorry.

If i were you, i would go make an appointment with your local eye doctor as your's clearly arent working correctly.

ArmA with high detail and all bells and whistles enabled might run like a sluggish turd but damn it looks good.

maybe its that screenshot then, are you saying you think that is great, maybe i should post a ghost recon shot and that will be from a 4 yearold game as well.

Please do, being a fan of the ghost recon and rainbow six games as well, it would be a nice comparison but personally i think the only game of that series that compaires currently is R6V, Ghost Recon wont surpass it until GRAW2 next month (if the pics are to be believed.) One thing you fail to realise though (maybe you do) is that ArmA and Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six are totally different genre's one is a tactical military simulation the others are a tactical FPS. Not forgetting that both graw and r6 only offer solo, small team environments not full one war on an island thats 400x400 km squared.

I had to skip through the Dolores mission as it was just driving me beserk, but now I've clattered to halt during the night ambush mission. It's just a shame the AI and the missions are so 'flaky'. One random thing goes slightly pear shaped and the mission can simply fall apart. Of course there are occasional 'moments' that happen during a mission which are pure genuis, but even so... It also lacks the atmosphere of the previous OFP games, especially Resistance. This is a shame.

As a side point, this thread is also exhibiting exactly what I'm finding wrong with PC gaming these days. A lot of people are solely focusing on the graphics and declaring it to be bad game as a result. Frankly I'm happy with its looks, I just wish it worked a lot better.

I have never played a game like this before so I downloaded the demo but
before I even installed it I bought the retail full version. I should have had
misgivings when I couldnt play the demo when in crossfire mode.

In fact I couldnt play it at all, just went in a continual start up loop.I wanted to return the game unopened but my son said I was a wuss and should go for it!
Im still stuck in training and Ive never played anything so counter intuitive
but I'm prepared to "soldier" on!

BTW even with my setup I'm getting about
30fps at default settings except for screen resolution and size change
