a petrol protest maybe next wednesday

Will never work, were not french enough!

Were always going to have people that was moan about not getting to work etc etc

Did they even block any lorries last time. The only reason I couldn't get fuel during the last protest was every panic buying idiot was filling up every vehicle and containter they could find up with fuel, and queueing a mile up the road to do it.

None of my local stations were empty. They just sold a fortune worth of fuel, at the higher prices.

Morons.

The only way to protest is to boycot one company, and force them to lower their price. But the british public are so stupid that they can't do anything like this.

Have you any idea how low margins on forecourt fuel are? Evidently not.

Well i saw a graph today and down here Petrol Stations get between 2 and 10 cents per litre.
Its probably like that over there aswell, The Petrol statiosn real Earners is the chocolate and what ever else they sell in the shop.

Actual petrol cost down here is around 70 cents.

So thats about 80 cents. The rest is tax so at the moment we have petrol at 135 a litre so we have about 50-55 cents worth of tax a litre.

But you lot over there have a **** load more.

I didn't say boycot a forecourt. I said a fuel company.

Anyhow. You're probably right. The problem with fuel is a global one. The problem with OUR fuel is tax. But hey, we keep voting for them.

A protest really needs to bring the protest to the people in charge, not just the public in general. Say we could prevent the ministerial cars from filling up. Now that would be a good one. Although under the new laws, you'd probably be shot.

How about blocking the ministerial cars compound with some artics. ;)

I do a 80 round trip to work every day, tbh the prices are killing me atm. Bring it on i say, even though nothing will change. :(

How would you propose one would do that? And what would you propose the said oil company did about it, given that retail sales in the UK generate next to no revenue and if prices were cut any further it would actually be a loss leader?

Do you have any idea how the fuel distribution system in the UK works? You cant block one company, fuel distribution is centralised. Blocking refineries is illegal...

Zip, what you say is true about shop revenue, its the only part of the retail side which makes anything.

get all the workers to strike? :D if we all put £10 in a big pot, and then use that to pay off a load of refinery works to strike. sorted :thumb:

But its the government we need to target? they are the ones taxing us for getting to work.... to then earn and be taxed again on my earnings.

I can't bus or cycle to my place of employment, therefore I shouldn't be penalised as much as those who can get a bus but still decide to drive.

The biggest problem I have with fuel prices is the fact that VAT is added AFTER fuel duty......why?!?! What value has been added by charging duty? Sure tax the basic cost of the product and the distribution cost but where's the justification of taxing a tax

The tax is in this country makes no sense, neither does most of the legal system, just old old systems with new systems on top, needs an over haul.

Doubt were gonna see a drop in Duty, a freeze possibly, but its a good cash cow.

I don't care if they bring the country to a grinding halt, someone needs to take some action, and it lies in those 56mph beasts and narrow busy roads.

Agreed, Artic's can bring this country to a standstill if they wanted to... shame that it isn't the driver that pays for fuel? Maybe if people were to save money by not refueling and pay lorry drivers to "park" on certain roads...

BREAKING NEWS
----

UPDATE: This morning (10/12/07) Transaction 2007 announced a firm date for the protest. Protests will start Saturday 15th December 2007 at 10:00am. They say the date was decided by members as "the best possible to enable those who would normally be working during the week to attend." According to a press release on the site, they plan to protest outside refineries or storage depots across the country.

why are you all complaining?

You are the same people who told me you dont care what price the fuel is.
Dont include me in that sweeping statement.

I care very much. I dont think this will make a blind bit of difference though.

There is only one way to change things, and it involves a ballot box.
