A piece of modern art that does not suck ass!

I didn't find it that impressive really, it looks like some kind of sculpture of a gorilla which someone has basically stuck coat hangers into.

My only positive thing to say about the coat hanger part would be that they seem to have stuck them in quite neatly =/ I'd probably 'enjoy' the piece just as much if the coat hangers weren't there, as the sculpture itself seems to be quite lifelike.

That leaping dog thing is awesome though

The point I was trying to make was that whether I like a piece of art or not is in no way related to the amount of effort which has gone into the piece. Sure, I can appreciate that the artist put a lot of effort into it - it was obviously something he cared about, that doesn't mean I have to like it. To appreciate a person's effort and to like something are, to me, two entirely different things.

I "like" a piece of art because I like to look at it, like the aforementioned Picasso. Visual art, to me, is about visual stimulation. I don't care whether a piece of art creates debate or makes people think, I care whether it looks good or not - perhaps it's because I'm not an artist

Art is all subject to personal opinion, personally I just don't think much of it, that doesn't mean the artist didn't put a lot of effort in just that it's not to my personal taste. Why should I have to make something in order to give my opinion on it?

I didn't say you should have to make something or be an artist to give your opinion... i just dont understand how you cannot think much of such a work, regardless if it's not to your personal taste.

Da vinci's sketchbooks are pretty much genious. Banksy is more evocative and throught provoking than this.... Why are you calling me up on this anyway, do you actually think this is anything other than a gorilla made of hangers? Would one made out of sugar cubes impress you equally? Once again I guess this boils down to what you want out of art; as for this peice, it does nothing at all for me. It provokes no reaction whatsoever apart from, "that probably took a while to do". Not all art has to take a thousand man hours to produce for it to be a valid piece of art.
