A Plague Tale: Innocence

EDIT: This is about the new game, A Plague Tale: Requiem!

The old dog (1070) still has some legs. This game is set to 30% of 4K which I think is just slightly more than 1080p. All the settings are on low and I'm getting 40-50fps. The game is so engrossing that I can pretty much see past all the technical issues on my PC like wobbly framerate and screen tearing. Still looks pretty good to my eyes although the lightning and sharpness definitely seem to take a hit compared to the beautiful screenies above.

Done the first two chapters now and it's more of the same so I am quite enjoying it.

Still looks good though there, it's one of those games you can kick back and play. I think I will fire up the XB1 controller and recline my chair for the next session for exactly this reason :D

The first game is well worth the purchase for those who haven't played it yet. It's well worth playing it before the sequel as it was very much a story driven game.

I still see some shimmering here and there, looks like a texture bug than anything else, anyone at this bit keep an eye out see if they see it too? It is only on some areas where sunlight hits, can be on water too. DLSS on or off makes no difference.

Hmm looks fine here :p Same on phone screen too. The game brightness is calibrated using the in-game slider and my displays are calibrated anyway so maybe your brightness is quite low or something?

Strange, I am on the latest Game Ready drivers too. Oh well I will just ignore the shimmer lol.

Ok so there is still a random glitch that happened every now and then, the frames will just drop to around 50-60 and then moments later jump back up to 100. The frametime graphs is smooth as though so it feels like the game is loading assets at ecrtain points, not often but that's what it feels like. Install drive is a gen 3 NVMe so I would not have expected any slugs here so I guess it is some bug or whatever.

Another bug is that people get stuck when 2 rats seem to get stuck....

Also. I have not seen rain this impressive since The Last of Us I don't think:

And as per the screenshot thread, HDR in this game is absolutely the best HDR implementation I have seen in a game yet, this section for example is incredible to behold in person:

(Pic because GFE doesn't work properly on this for some reason, screenshots come out as JPG, so can't tonemap to SDR)

Stuck?

You sure they're not doing something else?

I like how this game controls your fan lighting if you have a Corsair setup.

Thought it was broken at first, because the game turned all the lighting off, apart from the LCD display!

Turns out Corsair released a new update for their iCue s/w which fixed it, now the lighting changes depending upon what's happing in the game.

Nice touch, adds another level of immersion.

Have a couple of other games that do this, Far Cry 6 and Homefront the Revolution.

If there's an RT patch coming then I will hold off my current progress and continue after that. Game looks great right now, but RT is a ting I want lol.

Yeah it's a bit weird why it isn't added already given it was heavily sponsored by nvidia, iirc, has shadows, reflections and GI. Maybe performance related reasons given how hard hitting the game is without any RT!

For anyone else still lingering on whether to try this out or not, if you have Gamepass then spare a few tens of GB and give it a burn, it really is atmospheric and immersive especially as night sets and the music kicks in.

Here are a few areas I recorded, shame YouTube doesn't support above 60fps yet but you get the idea :p

Also, now that I have RTSS reading CPU usage correctly, interesting to see that at 3440x1440 the CPU is still pretty relaxed, I am GPU bound in some areas like the below, where heavy fire particles do drop me to 51fps, vs a lush vegetation area out in the open running over 90fps. Note the CPU package usage between both. The drop to 51fps has only been noticed in that one scene so far and nowhere else. Seems that particular area is pretty heavy on the GPU - Or is that more a case of the physics/area not being optimised for that particular bit hence the drop since in a game like Uncharted 4, there is zero frame drop with even more SFX on screen. I would suspect the latter.

This game tanks my FPS, sometimes down to 45 and roasts my RTX 2070 Super! Never seen my GPU go over 80C before!!

Always in the low 70's with any other game

Having just rolled the credits on my first playthrough I have to agree with mrk. The world building and imagery, especially towards the final chapters(and especially the final chapter)was just breathtaking. Not that it wasn't without small graphical niggles here and there but nothing that diminished the experience I had and nothing that's gonna stop me from going through the NG+ being a bit more gung-ho about things. Fantastic story, beautiful to look at and just all around a magnificent experience.

Also got the joy of experiencing it on my C2 and the HDR implementation is another absolute marvel in places. Should have really remembered to switch that on from the start.

I think the only thing that’s annoying me three chapters in, is the loss of abilities from the first game. I want to be able to take out helmeted soldiers and have a fast sling speed again!

Never heard of this before so downloaded it via game pass and after few minutes of playing it seems like yet another generic “hold forward and press A” console style game. Child walking simulator.

The first scene literally is walking from point a to point b, so that's a given. It's setting the story up as per the original premise, taking in the surroundings, then all hell breaks loose soon after. A few minutes of play time is nowhere near enough time to base a verdict on. I guess it isn't a game for those with an attention span shorter than a few minutes lol.
