In January I'm buying a S9600 which has a 58mm lens thread so I can use filters on my lens. I plan to buy a UV filter to give the lens as bit of extra protection and I was thinking of getting a polorizer filter. The thing I was wondering is it worth getting any other types of filter? With PS being such an amazing tool is there a benifit of getting a colour filter? Also whats the sort of price range I should be looking at for a semi-decent filter? You see them as low as £3.50 on some sites but I guess they aint worth it.
Cheers

The only other thing I'd get is a 'ND Grad' (?) filter, for landscape photography. This basically is a bit of glass with the top half darkened so the top half of the shot gets less exposure. So the land and sky can both be exposed correctly.

Tbh, the filters you have chosen are your best bet.
The UV one should stay on your lense permanently as protection
A circular polariser is a essential one.
And a few ND grads for landscape photography.

Thats all I've used in yrs since a basic SLR where i had lots of weird ones !

Yea thats what I was thinking. There is no need to spend stupid money on filters that will just give the same effect that a few mins photoshop work can do.

I've had a quick look and a lot of people seem to think that hoya make good fliters for the money, but they seem a little too cheap at about £12 for a UV(n) filter..... so has anyone bought one?

Yep, with no problems whatsoever. On both of my lens. UV and CPL filters.
