A Question Regarding Processor Affinity

Hi there

Appologies if I have posted this to the incorrect forum.

Just installed my AMD FX-60 and have checked via Device Manager that the installation has been a success.
Under Device Manager, when I expand the entry for "Computer" it is displaying "ACPI MultiProcessor PC" and under "Processors" it displays "AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor".
In Task Manager - Performance tab there are 2 graphs showing under CPU Usage History.
So it appears that the CPU has been installed correctly.

However when I run CPUZ the Processor Selection tab is greyed out.
In addition when I right-click on the application in Task Manager - Processes the "Select Affinity" has only a tick in CPU 1 whilst CPU 0 is unticked.
A tick in the CPU 0 box will not stick.
Same story with FRAPS, yet RegCleaner has both boxes ticked.
I recall reading somewhere that RegCleaner does not launch correctly with Dual Core CPU's.

After that rather lengthy post I'm wondering if there are any suggestions in getting both FRAPS and CPUZ to recognise the FX-60 and any ideas why it is working with RegCleaner and most other applications.

cheers

I have read that once installed you can't remove the Dual Core Optimizer.
Is that correct ?

Dual core optimiser is an executable that is executed once at windows startup to synchronise parts of both cores. The executable then closes straight away.

This can be disabled by either uninstalling it or removing the startup entry from msconfig.

My experiences with it don't seem to make any difference wither way but if you are experienceing any probs, try it.

I just noticed in Device Manager ( after enabling Show Hidden Devices ) that there is a greyed out entry for my previous CPU
Do yu reckon it's safe to uninstall this ??

cheers

As long as you have two copies of your fx60 showing you will be okay to remove it. Not sure why its there though as I recently upgraded mine and it doesn't show it.

I have a question though. In device manager, expand the computer tab and tell me what it says. It should say "ACPI multiprocessor PC" if not right click on it and click upgrade.

If you are having problems this should resolve them. After this, dual core optimiser didn't make any difference to me.

Yes "ACPI multiprocessor PC" is showing in Computer

with the latest version of cpu-z they have identified the difference between multiple processors and cores.

Mine is greyed out also, but next to it there is a 'Cores' entry which should say '2'.

If your old processor driver is still showing in device manager I would remove it. If its there, its loaded. If you don't have the processor, the driver shouldn't be loaded.

This may be the reason to some of your probs.

The dual core optimiser is there for people that have trouble with dual core systems. Try it out. It is very easy to disable if it causes you problems.

If this doesn't help I have a few other questions:

Are you running this overclocked? Do you have the same problems when not overclocked?

Did you buy your fx-60 second hand? Have you run enough benchmarking tests to test all parts of the processor are working well? This program seems to be a good overall workout that will make sure all parts are running fine.
