I've contemplated selling the 458 for a while, in hindsight I should have sold it last year when I considered doing so as I'd have got more money for it and not had to pay out £8000 for the gearbox repair, but at same time if I'd have sold it and a month or two later the gearbox grenaded itself on new owner I'd have felt really bad for them, though no fault of my own.

I guess I am just in a similar position to Sam at seeing through glass with his 360, I have done everything I have wanted to do with the 458 and owned it five years and done over 15,000 miles in it, when I decide what to drive I tend to drive the 458 more because I feel I should because its good for the car and not because I want too, this is in no way because its a bad car but without been too blunt the McLaren is a better drive, but that car is one year in, will it survive another four years, probably unlikely.

Also no mistake that it is far harder to enjoy the roads these days, and less so in a very bright very loud Ferrari, not that I'd ever let this stop me. :D

Yes in short two cars have gotten under my skin recently, the 600 and the M2, both are such joyous things to drive, I also love driving the 360 as well. The 458, Clio and Corvette are rarely ever driven, Corvette I keep as its a classic and it truly cost zero to have it been a classic. Clio not so bad but the 458 is £1200 in insurance, £300 tracker, £1000 service, £700 road tax, plus any repairs/consumables its an expensive toy to have sat there, particular if I am not getting the use out of it.

Also I will never deny that owning so many cars and caring for them all myself, washing, servicing, repairing, whilst having a job and a house to maintain, well it can sometimes get stressful on that sometimes I have to spend so much time cleaning them as I am not the person who will put the car in the garage dirty, it has to be clean and spotless, its just me.

But yes no one needs a supercar, let alone three, owning them makes me happy but can also be stressful, so time to let one go and it makes sense its the one that cost the most to own but most of all its the one I have enjoyed to the upmost and done everything with I wanted to do with it and now it just sits in the garage, the last 12 months think I did less than 1000 miles in it or just over and half of those were probably me taking out to ensure it is OK as I will always aim to drive it at least once every 2-3 weeks.

So yeah its got to go, Clio too as I guess it was more an impulsive buy and now I've made it spotless I again drive it to keep it happy, not me, great it is I'd just rather drive the M2 or 360. :)

Yeah i can imagine it gets pretty tedious in terms of effort and reward with such a fleet, its great to have experienced it though so fair play there! Ive only got 4 cars at the moment and the last time the Insight was used was in April, needs an MOT which is prob just the brake lines sat waiting on the seat and i know before its taken anywhere it will need a wash as its dusty even in a garage. Thats a purely effort thing without any cost corrupting my motivationg :cry: Plus of course i cheat with my two main cars and comedy running costs.

I thought the insurance was rather good if that was a renewal in the last 6 months!


I can understand the Ferrari not quite cutting it against the Mclaren. I don't think I could do a extensive multicar performance garage like yours as I'd want to keep them all running with semi regular use. I did wonder if you could do some final thoughts on the Alfa (in your other thread) as I believe that has now been sold for a few months now?
