A (slightly) weird encounter with some Japanese tourists...

Well I'm glad they didn't eat her as that would be most annoying. I have been told I look a bit like Michael McIntyre. Anyway, I managed to find a pic of her on the day plus one in a friend's garden. D'you think she looks oriental? I can't see it myself...

On a school trip at the science museum once and this random Japanese tourist comes up to me and my mate and takes like 15 pictures! Promptly reported it to our teacher!

1st pic, perhaps, maybe, a little if you squint.

2nd. No.

Honestly though, considering the state of TV in Japan, I'd be happy that was all the girls did, who knows what they may have seen the Japanese equivalent of Ant & Dec do at 6pm on a Saturday and hence consider "normal".

(Not saying I think Ant and Dec are "normal")

No, but I would have noticed in the past if they had a 'fascination' with 'white people'. :p

I've just asked all my Japanese friends and they told me it's something they tend to keep to themselves.

Forde - that's a cute little girl you have there (no homo). Well done.

I really think its because she is dressed up like what Japanese girls look like back home and thought it was cool to see a white kid looking like they do back home. Also her eyes do look a tad Japanese.

This is just an observation from watching far too much anime of course. :D

The first picture has rather a 'Hello Kitty' look about it to me, might be some connection along those lines.

But as has been said before, you could spend 20 years learning about Japanese culture and still not fully understand all of it.

Depends how accustomed they are to westerners I guess.

When I spent some time in Japan in a non touristy part kids were always looking, giggling and generally pretty friendly and fascinated by my friend and I being westerners as they just don't see them there very often.

In my experience it's fiction, outside of the obvious 'areas' of certain cities. The Japanese are rather cautious of Westerners. And before anybody says it I had a girlfriend when I was living there so no it is not a reaction to endless knockbacks in bars :)

Can white men get laid very easily in Japan or is that just fiction?

In the big cities, I would say it has somewhat of a truth to it. Some Japanese women like to have the brag factor that they slept with a white man, much to the annoyance of Japanese males. And, for some, there's the cultural differences they prefer (like how we treat women as equals and in Japan women are generally subordinate to the 'man' of the family).

In other parts of Japan, I'd say no. Fascination doubled with caution.

Hmm, then it would appear I need to emigrate. Post haste.

I wonder if that's because of the Second World War or Japan's historic isolationism. In fact, how do the Japanese view WW2? Is their sentiment towards it sort of "Our bad, but then, you nuked us so even Stevens"?
