a very quick x6

A wikid tuned one which he did using his secret laptop tuning skills he wont tell us about.

In reality, a slightly shabby 150bhp one :p

according to tweb, those x6 do a quarter mile in the 14s which sort of tallies up

the golf has seen 6.2krpm in 5th, with a bit of maths, thats 148

Having a quick look at 1.8T gear ratios, in 5th gear (assuming 5 speed box), 6500rpm is 135mph, 7000rpm is 146mph.

You'd have to have been really giving it some to get it to 7000rpm in 5th

What ratios are you using? The ones I have would pin 6200rpm at 129mph

130 in a golf is rather dangerous, I know its still not that safe in a bigger / better car however it would be more stable on the road and could actually stop in less then half a mile should the need arise.

This is why my bother got a beating when I found out that he was doing 125mph in small car I had just got him (Fox you where right) I should have got the 1.4

When my Passat was running 190bhp it had enough power to reach 146 on gps whilst two up with a boot full of gear, so I'd say yes it would provide its geared the same as mine.

190 != 150 though. Not sure how weight would affect top speed potential either? Might take longer to accelerate but surely resistance and available power is the only important factors for top speed potential, not weight.

Weight won't have much bearing on top speed, so much as how long it takes to get there.

Frontal area, drag coefficient, rolling resistance, gearing... they'll have more effect.

Yeah they can be rapid :D

exactly, its not normal to see something that is half the size of a BUS staying in exactly the same position on your rear view mirror when youve given it all the beans upto some very stupid speeds.

and then to learn its a diesel, and its only 3.0, i think its amazing

theoretical top speed, as far as i can see is given by 53.26 multiplied by the cube root of power over CdA. For the Mk4, CdA is 6.51, so using that with a power figure of 150bhp gives an overall theoretical top speed of 151.56MPH not accounting for gearing or rolling resistance from the tyres

mine is definitely not 150bhp, ive seen 148mph according to the rev counter and gearing etc.

one day ill get it dynod, but as much as fox would love to turn this into a golf discussion, the point of this thread is how gobsmacking it is to see an x6 barrelling past at well beyond 130
