a very quick x6

lets not confuse things by discussing the 325i :p
Let's not say things which aren't true.

FWIW, BMW seems to have dropped the 35d in the new 6, 7 and X5.
The 306bhp diesel which is the 535d in the F10, F07 and X6 is the 40d in the 6, 7, and X5

My old 320 M sport was a 2.2 if I recall?

My station car - an N plate 320 saloon, was a straight 6 1991cc.

I was never confused.

who says i wasn't referring purely to the models i mentioned - the 3 series and the Z4 rather than the entire BMW range :p

Where is the logic in the 5 being added on?

Assuming the x30 refers to the engine size that is.

Edit - just re-read your previous post on the matter, makes a little bit of sense.

i wasn't actually. I had no intention of implying there are two 3.0 6 cylinder engines in the entire BMW range, you're just on one and nit picking on my wording.

But it doesn't really refer to engine size anymore, that's the point.
How could it, now that they've got about 5 different 3.0 petrols?

What would you call the 535i for example, the 530it?

Nit picking on your wording? Not really. I'm telling you you're completely wrong.
Even if you were just referring to the Z4 and 3 series (not sure why, but whatever), then there are still THREE petrol engines, let alone the diesels too. And yes, I'm including the x25i. Why wouldn't I?
Unless of course you were only refering to the x30i and x35i. Which you claim you were. Even though you said "the range".
Unless of course by "the range" you actually meant "BMW have two 6 cylinder engines in two cars with those two engines".
In which case, yes I apologise for "nit picking you wording"
