1) Do not wear a jacket with a zip whilst taking pics.

2) Do not let your camera hang round your neck constantly whilst wearing said zipped jacket.

3) Don't wait until zip on jacket scratches dSLR LCD. Buy an LCD protector now!

There are only light scuffs on mine but it was a big mistake spending £600 and not getting a protector at the same time for under £10. :(

What camera do you have? I'd imagine the plastic LCD cover will be able to be taken off and replaced by a decent repair company without too much hastle. Give Fixation an e-mail to see what they can do about it.

By screen protector, am I correct in assuming it's the sticky plastic sheet and not a clip-on screen?

Are there better ones than others?

GGS are the bees knees. Cheap, but very hard wearing. Made out of tempered glass and fit perfectly (and they make them for the top screen as well on some cameras.) :)

I have an Expert Shield protector for my D40 - it's the flexible PDA polymer type protector. Although not the 'hard' glass type, it's very clear, cheap and easy to apply.

Sony A700.

I was really talking about the GGS protectors rather than the plastic strips.

The scuffs aren't massively noticable, only in sunlight when reviewing images. Thankfully, I don't have LiveView. That would have been annoying.

Ironically, it was me who asked about protective screens a while ago. The GGS ones were recommended then but I just hadn't got round to buying one.

the £10 Sony clip on one for the A700 is fine.
Sorry to hear about your mishap..

Thanks for that diverse180. It'll come in useful.

Cheers Buff. As I said, its not massively noticable. Its lucky I saw it when I did really. :)

Interesting, I might look into this, although I've been lucky so far and avoided any real scratches.

Where I used to work though, we had a 1Ds II which was used whilst wearing safety goggles. That was rather badly scratched :o Not a real issue as the LCD was never used and we used the video out to a monitor but at a glance it did look pretty bad.

My screen is a little scratched, but tbh I don't really care, it's not like it's a lens. :)

As for those plastic screen clip on things, do they come free with nikon cameras, as almost every nikon I see has one over the screen, unlike almost every canon?

I know that my KM 7D came with 1 free but when Sony bought them Sony stopped shipping them with the camera & started charging ... :(

Picked up a GGS one earlier following your recommendations - £6 off Ebay from HK. Barely any UK sellers stock it.

Received it earlier this week. Easy to install - gave the screen a wipe and blew any specs of dust off with a canned air duster. A bit of pressure required to shuffle it to get it perfect. Bit thicker than I expected so strong (but brittle). It doesn't hinder the screen's appearance either.

Good stuff overall...will test it out in the field on Sunday hopefully.
