A64 3500+ Overclock

higher multi means a lower htt for the same clock.

The lower the htt the closer to stock the memory controller and mobo htt link are

Hello all,

yes first post, but I just thought I'd stick my oar in with my own oc.

I've got a Venice 3200+ running at 2410mhz, 241 * 10, and it's perfectly stable, stock cooling too, and no extra volts, just 1.45. Did have to run my Geil Value ram on a divider though, as it was clearly causing problems, it's running at 220 on the divider.

It was stable at 2.5, but haven't had chance to do a 12hour plus run on it at that speed yet, so stuck with 2.4 for now.

so goody, I reckon you may be able to get to 2.6 if you try! :)

Hi,

How weird I was overclocking tonight as well the exact same CPU

here are my results

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=83006

I was lucky cuz someone basically told me what to do......

I know I know I have to learn its in my best interest after....

Meanwhile I noticed in everest it states my system has been overclocked 10% how good is this on the overclocking scale?

I mean what percentage to the experts overclock to?

Thanks for your help

hey what temps is it running at? are u also running stock cooling?

i'v managed to push mine to 2.5 now but i think im going to get a freezer 64 pro on it soon, then i'l try and push it further!

10% is ok, you've basically got the performance of a 3700/3800 cpu (without the larger L2 cache!) i think u'l be able to get more out of it tho :D

2.6 on a newcastle would be some feat. 2.53 as goody as already achieved is the max mine will do. Anymore and it just crashes or resets the bios !

I "primed" it last night and it wasnt having any of it....

I will try and mess around wiv the temps to see if it more stable...:-(

When my system now boots up I get the mobo screen first then it goes through the normal boot procedure however 2 secs later I get this error msg...

"no drive attached to fast track controller.....bios not installed" erm help?

System shows I am using Amerciantrends bios version 02.54.....

Also I noted I am missing 2 device drivers :

a) eternet controller b) Raid controller

When I restart when windows comes to the "shutting down screen" it says "the door for volume A appears to be open , please close"

Erm I dont have a drive A though? Never got this before...

please help?

P.S. i ran the standard prime test...

First off, what Motherboard have you got. Lay down your system specs in this thread please.

Next, set it back to defaults and see if it now boots up.

If you are getting a no boot device type of error and you have a combination of IDE and SATA drives, check to see that you have the right one as your default boot drive. That caught me out before when I did a BIOS update !

Once you have loaded safe defaults, try a more conservative overclock first, and gradually begin to crack it up, rather than going for the motherload the first time out !!!

i have an asus a8v deluxe mobo
amd 64 3500 newcastle
4 x 256 ram sticks

I installed the eternet controller driver now when I reboot it says "no server connection found" how do I disable it trying to look for a server connection when there isnt one lol

I also installed the raid driver...

Now when I reboot i get the mobo screen and no ami trends screen like i did before...

I need to reinstall the bios I think but I dont have a floppy drive? I do however have a portable hard drive will this work?

Erm I very confused please help....

BTW It was after I loaded the bios setup defaults this all happened?

The system always boots up and takes me into windows its just the way it happens....

Before I used to get the ami trends screen and then xp logo then I was in....

Now I get the mobo screen display followed by it looking for IDE drives, then I get another screen advising me "no fast track controller found.....bios not installed" then the xp screen then it goes into windows....

What is a fast track controller? hmmm

please help

The A8V is a Via chipset board correct? If so have you tried downloading the latest chipset drivers for your board?

Not sure what else to suggest to be honest.....

yeap you are right....

well i managed to get rid of the promise controller msg (thank god) in the BIOS by disabling it LMAO sometimes its the easiest things...

Now re: the chipset does that have to do with SCSI and RAID controller drivers? Everytime my system starts up it displays the mobo screen, then states VIA information then goes into the XP screen......

I dont know why the mobo screen appears ever since I loaded defaults in BIOS it shows up....I need to update the BIOS can someone please help me do this?

thanks

Hi,

superpc you must have a venice??

I cant get my newcastle running at 2.5ghz...I am currently running prime (torture test ) at 220fsb x 11multi @ 1.6v....cpu is running at 59c which I am worried about....I do have an artic cooler 64 pro but still not getting much joy with this baby, perhaps its my 350w psu or 4 x 256 ram sticks? Which I have on a 5/3 ddr 333 divider.....

Goody is yours stable at 2.5ghz?

I've got mine 3500+ newcastle to 230X11 = 2530Mhz for benchmarking with a 166/333Mhz RAM divider.

what psu and ram do u have tzu??? whats your cpu temp at 2530mhz?

My 1st A64 was a 3500 Newcastle, used to run 2.6ghz on air 2.75ghz on water.

IIRC It ran 2.4ghz with 1.55v

Max clock will depend a lot on motherboard, when I ran it in my Abit AV8 3rd-eye max I could get was 2.64ghz,
then I tried a MSI Neo2 Plat which enabled me to reach 2.75ghz :)
