A8R32-MVP what is it

turns out it might have been the dual core optimizer hotfix and driver i had installed that might have caused it, check cpu forum

I use AMD driver, not the optimizer or hotfix but will try later (have done in the past) No problems before or now.

Hi Squiffy, my driver version says 1.0.5.8, dated 23/12/05, check you actually have the latest version here http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html
Edit sorry my error I'm looking at the ULi drivers, I don't use the sill one as it's slower...
Tom|Nbk
Yes I have but I don't use it, if you could possibly post up your queries here or PM me...
Cheers

Hi Tom i see your using on board sound have you got pci sound card you could use.

hi there i don't actually have a pci sound card i could use, im going to reflash the board a few times today and see if it helps, what a problem riddled board

after furthur testing it seems that the latest Uli 2.20 can cause hdd hangs and pauses in games such as bf2 etc this should be addresed by nvidia as i can 100% confirm that this is the driver that was causing some of my problems, this problem only occurs when loading game data from the hdd could it be that its prehaps conflicting with the default Microsoft SCSI/RAID Host Controller driver or is this driver for a seperate thing? anyway for now ive uninstalled it out my system as it seems to be fine without it chris do you play bf2?

Hi, no I don't but I've played just about every other game with no problems. It is rather stange that bf2 is the only game to be affected, is there a demo that I could try?
Edit: I'm also wondering if it is related to having a x2 CPU, which I haven't....

I have BF2, no problems either. ULI 2.20 drivers installed.

do you have the default microsoft raid controller installed aswell? or just the uli and sil driver's this could have been my problem but i can 100% confirm it caused the stuttering very odd indeed

Hi, are you running your boot drive from the sill controller. If you are I'd suggest you change it to the ULi and see what happens, maybe worth a try....
ChrisC

no im running my boot drive from the uli, this is what my device manager looks like without the uli driver installed ;

notice the SCSI/RAID Host Controller, that remains installed when i install the Uli drivers is there a chance it could be conflicting and should this driver be removed when the Uli driver is installed?

Hi, according to that all you have is the Sill drivers installed, not the ULi ones. If you had it would state 'ULi Sata/Raid Controller M1575/Mi697). If you are you sure you are using the ULi connectors? There are four of them down to the bottom right hand side of the motherboard.

If you are, and running in emulated pata mode, then it might be ok to remove both of those items, you will not need the ULi raid drivers anyway. I cannot stress enough that you must make backups incase it all goes awry, it maybe that it will be ok after removing the Sill drivers, however it may not cure your issues as you aren't using any ULi drivers, it isn't required for pata mode, or, it might just trash your system requiring either a repair or a fresh install....

When you changed the motherboard did you perform a fresh install anyway?

chris i think you have got totally confused here, i 100% have my hdd's plugged into the Uli, im not running emulated pata and it works just fine without the Uli drivers ive had the motherboard for ages and have done numerous installs with it, what i mean is windows xp has a built in sata/raid controller driver, this was installed at the same time as the Uli driver which might have been causing a conflict, i also noticed asus don't even have the Uli drivers listed on there website which seemed odd to me prehaps asus know they can cause conflicts in some systems, anyway all i know is everything seems ok now.

Anyone have empty area in Control Panel Sata controller? Using latest SI sata drivers.

I get the same in that dialogue box, nothing. Don't know if it's related but in the bios, my harddrive is listed as third IDE master?

Hi, I think that the ULi drivers came from the F6 point of installing XP, where you load from a floppy, as far as I'm aware there are no default MS drivers integrated with XP. Sorry for the confusion, if all is ok now then fine....
Just for the record mine shows this

No idea about a new bios, give it a month or two maybe but unless there are going to be any new CPU's for a 939 board, which is a nono, then it is probably unlikely to happen.....
