First off, sure, I am not entitled to anything so they can price stuff as they please.

All I know is that I cannot remember the last time I purchased a AAA title at launch, mainly owing to pricing and the fact I do not think their games are worth what they are asking for. Nothing is "groundbreaking" nowadays.

Even grey market/stolen keys are around £35 give or take at times.

I realise in this day and age, for every person like me, there are 50 kids all aboard the hype train throwing money out of the windows and fair play to them.

Sure, I will be buying Insurgency Sandstorm ready for launch and purchased Mothergunship but neither are AAA.

Also, what is with multiple SKU's at launch...

Super Game - Standard
Super Game - Super Standard
Super Game - Super Standard Deluxe
Super Game - Super Standard Deluxe Putin Edition

I get that it is business but how did these scumbags worm their way into the industry.

Destiny 2 I think, which I bought 2 copies of so my son and I could play together, got our money's worth. :)

Lots of the things the industry does these days are annoying, like those SKU's you mention, however 99% of the stuff in them is useless guff you really dont need at all.

People in this day and age are the 'gimme/pixelcrack' generation - multiple SKU's will only get worse and you only have to look at RDR2 from Rockstar to see that they're already at it with the game far from release. They'll milk gamers dry because, well gamers are fickle. We say one thing and the moment a carrot is dangled in front of us we give in. Games are being 'tarnished' because of us.

FarCry 5 was the last PC game I purchased at launch and it is very rare for me to do so. I had been playing FarCry 4 a week and a half before 5 released and after finishing it I needed MOAR! hence the preorder a day before release. I believe I paid £30 for mine with a 20% off code. Second to this would be Mass Effect 3 - ended up uninstalling Origin afterwards and never looked at an EA game since.

On the PS4 my last launch title was Horizon Zero Dawn. Easily the GOTY back then and had no microstransaction bs, just raw visuals, gameplay and audio along with plot.

I ALWAYS buy standard versions of games.

Plenty of opportunity to pick up AAA titles cheap if you wait a while, and really, they are getting cheaper all the time when you consider inflation, and ignore the useless guff in deluxe editions.

I buy the odd AAA on release, Overwatch, Zelda, Mario, Horizon Zero Dawn. Well worth the outlay imo.

Destiny 2 was the last game I pre ordered at full price, last game I actually preordered was FF15 but that wasn't full price via CDKeys.

Pcars 2 was the last game I bought at launch day and It wasn’t to bad a price think it was £30 for the deluxe edition from cdkeys but they seem to be getting dearer and dearer! My limit is £20 and I won’t buy it till it gets down to that price unless I really really want it which hasn’t happened in a while. Keep checking for f1 2018 currently sitting at 26.99 I’ll wait!

I got BF1 near launch so for about £40. I got 80 hours out of it before I go bored so I'm happy with that. Got premium for it start of this year really cheap (£10) and it gave me a 2nd wind and now have over 120 hours.

I got bf1 premium on pre-order, played best part of 1000 hours. So works out ~10p an hour so far. Seems reasonable to me.

I normally wait a while and get them when the price has tanked but as I prefer single player games I'm not missing anything by waiting.

Think the last game I ordered near a full price was pre-ordering Left 4 Dead 2. Always been a thrifty gamer and been away from proper gaming PC for a while so at the moment just catching up on a huge backlog from 2012.

Game pricing seems completely stupid nowadays, can push past ridiculous price point if you want a "complete" edition.

I don't buy any game at launch now, especially AAA. Most AAA titles are just cookie cutter nonsense, therefore i don't think these titles justify their £40/50 price tag.

Also, too many games are designed for teens and don't respect my time, but that's a whole other issue.

Last game I got full price was FarCry 5. Usually, I buy from key sites like Kinguin etc. So this was an unusual purchase. Have to say I was underwhelmed and felt it was closer to a £20 game than a £45 game. That said I got Assassins Creed Origins on Kinguin pretty cheap and thought I would have paid closer to launch pricing.

Where I have fallen lucky is I was able to get a yearly subscription to Origin Access. Not sure if it was Black Friday but it was like 50% off and I must say I got my moneys worth out of this upto now. Origin Access premier looks an interesting prospect. Slightly higher price but they make the promise of day 1 launch titles on AAA such as Madden 19, Fifa 19, No Way Out, Battlefield 5. https://www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/origin-access/ea_play

Appreciate a subscription model is not everyones cup of tea but the way I look at it, I pay a sub for Spotify and Netflix and don't own the media ultimately so Im kind of comfortable with a subscription model for this kind of service.

Couldn't agree more with FC5. I'd finished it the campaign in just under 27hrs and the rest of the game in 30hrs. Meanwhile on FC4 I had accumulated 80hrs with a lot still to finish off. FC5 either way was a bad buy. Then a few weeks later I grabbed AC:Origins cheap for £20 and 114hrs later I'd finished the main campaign + 2 dlcs and had a blast.

I feel as though AC: Odydysysyey will be my next AAA release day title, providing I can upgrade my GPU by then but time will tell on this one. Might just buy it for my PS4 Pro instead as it'll run way better.

IMO it's about how much quality playtime you get for the money rather than the overall price. A £1 game that gives you less than an hours enjoyment is pretty expensive. A £100 game that gives 1000 hours is cheap. Obviously a person's impression of value will come down to whether they personally like the game or not.

Has to be a game I've had my eye on for sometime to buy on launch, don't pre-order anymore as there is always a means to get a game on day of release.

Usually I wait for the game to decrease in value, if I really want it I'll pay upto £30.. if I don't then I'll wait until it's in the £5-£15 region.

I pre ordered BF5 but only because it was about £30. I would never pay full price for a game, I don't see how you could anyway. There is always someone doing a deal on every game at every time. Just find it.

Personally think buying games at £40-50 is insane and outrageous, especially how they delivered to us these days. Super super editions with unlocks, bad player host matchmaking and loot boxes and god knows what else and with about 7 hours of story time, then they release the season pass which costs just as much as the base game.

£30 is the highest I will pay for a game (Last time I paid £30 was for A:CM) while £15-20 is my sweet spot, my last major purchases have been around £25, £15, £13 and £8 or so.

Next major purchase could be Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Division 2, Life is Strange 2, Fallout 76 Monster Hunter (still debating) and few others. Likely hood I will just wait it out till the sales.

Still unsure if I really want to buy them on day one, I have enough games in my backlog to keep me for years.

I think if they lowered the price for some of the big AAA titles, the would get more people buying them and therefore make more money.
