Hi, today my Orange Broadband has been playing up. Tried 3 times to phone them and I get no joy from them. They say there has been a problem and it is sorted now.

My connection is so slow now. Just look at this photo, christ 56k was quicker.

I am thining of leaving them. I dont pay for Broadband from them as I am a contract monthly phone customer with Orange and have been for some 12+ years. I get broadband free as was with freeserve/wanadoo then orange bought them out and excisting customers then got it free.

If I do go for another supplier of broadband, who is good? dont want to really be sending a lot each month as been used to getting broadband free. Even if Orange are pants lately.

Thanks

Orange 3g Has been down for me for 3 days now.

They're decommissioning around 8000 masts that overlap with the TMobile ones now that they share networks. This shouldn't affect coverage but since they started lots of people, including myself have noticed black spots appearing for a few days at a time. Coverage here still hasn't returned fully to normal.

My guess is they're not being as careful and methodical as one would think in turning them off :)

Go for Be*, had them for 2 years and can't fault their service.

Having said that I just switched over to BT Infinity because I wanted fibre optic speeds which Be* do not provide for me due to distance to exchange. If they do plan on providing fibre optic I can see myself returning to them in the future.

Bingo. Start using the master socket and get rid of your crappy extension(s)!

Try using the test socket behind the master socket as you might be able to squeeze even more speed out of your line by isolating the extension(s).

 You get a higher line attenuation for downstream using the master socket yet get a faster/higher synch and the noise margin on DS drops too
Looks a bit weird to me test socket should give a `lower` attenuation surely ?

whats that ? and where from ?

It's from a competitor just google for adsl nation xte-2005 and you'll have all the information you need. It replaces the faceplate on your master socket splitting the voice and adsl connection at source. No need for filters in every socket.

Okay I shall grab one of those then. Thank you.

Just google it and cant get that website to open. Looked on 'that' auction site. There is loads, Any chance of a pointer to one that will work. As there is a lot on there.

Okay took face plate off of master BT socket and just plugged router (and filter) into test socket and this is my results.

This seem any beter?

Your line stats seem a smidge better when being plugged in to the main socket (IE not the test socket) but only by a fraction!! however your actual sync speed is much better in the test socket for some reason :\ (Your downstream attenuation is 50db in the main socket, and 52db in the test socket, this is quite a high attenuation rate, but should be giving you more than the 192kbps you are seeing in the first screenshot)

Try plugging in to the master socket main socket again? and check the line stats? you tried a new filter? You can also plug a phone directly in to the test socket (no filter) and dialling 17070 to do a quiet line test, the line should be quiet and no noise.

Make sure you change the filters, might be worth getting your profile reset, or your line re-trained
