Good afternoon,

In August I purchased some new hardware as listed below:
256Mb XFX PCI-E GF6800GT DDR3
530W Tagan 2Force T530-U22 SLi U-Qu
AMD Athlon 64 3000 32/64Bit CPU S93
Abit AN8 Ultra PCI-E S939 NF4 DDR40
2Gb (2x1GB)Corsair, DDR400, non-ECC

I have four HDD's installed - two IDE and two are SATA.

I installed it fine and its been working like a dream until about two or three weeks ago.

I started getting some rather odd messages at startup:
Warning! NOW system is in safemode
Please re-setting CPU frequency in the CMOS setup
CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded

The machine is not overclocked in any way. I have reset the CMOS numerous times with varying success.

When I save and exit from the BIOS, its exits but does not seem to reboot. ie. monitor loses signal, fans and everything running, but i don't get the familiar startup beep. Sometimes I get an instantaneous single beep when I turn the PC on followed by the familiar single beep during POST.

Sometimes by simply pressing F1 to skip going into the BIOS after one of the above error messages the system starts fine but if I reboot or switch off the PC for any reason and then try to restart it sometimes I don't even get to see the POST screen although all the drives and CPU fan are running.

One very strange thing has been noticed and that is that the two case fans I have no longer run. The one is a 80mm which is attached to the MOBO and the other is a 120mm which is attached directly to the PSU.

Mobo BIOS Version - Award BIOS V6.00PG 04/25/2005 - NF - CK804 - 6A61FA1BC - 13

I am quite distressed and would really appreciate some advice, especially from those who may have experience the same issue.

I have updated to 20 which is the latest as of the 13th.

I have also read an enormous amount tonight that its possibly a compatability issue between the mobo and the 6800GT.

With the machine powered off, remove the video card, taking all the usual static precautions, put it in a plastic bag and refrigerate it until it is cold (don't freeze it). Install it back into your machine and power it up. Does it boot up right away? If it does, you are unlikely to ever have this problem. If it doesn't boot until the system warms up, you have the cold boot bug.

It didn't start for me until Winter came.

Which is true for me - it only really started recently.

Not really in a position to find more money for another motherboard unfortunately. No win situation.

Hi,

I am still having issues and it seems to get the same error each time. It appears to halt at error code 04. I am not sure what this code is and would appreciate some help.

Thanks.

I would either RMA the board or scrap it mate. I did get an ASUS A8N-E but had problems with it so got an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium now!!

Are you serious. Did you have exactly the same issues with the machine posting?

Just concerned that its not the board. I just don't know what to do now. I have read issues about the A8N-E as well so guess its just an NForce4 type issue across all the boards.

I totally agree. I have seen a lot of thread similar to mine but about other board manufacturers.

Thankfully mine is being RMA'd on Friday. They don't make the AN8 anymore, not sure what board I will end up with.

Best of luck with your mobo issue.
