I find the MM rules very frustrating. I have been a member of the forum for about 16 months, but only tend to post when I think I can contribute to a discussion. I dont generally post for postings sake.

At this rate it is going to be another 16-18 months before I can get access, and yet people who have been on the forum for a few months make 1000 posts in the form of 1 word replies, or even just a smiley face.

The ethos of contribution seems somewhat skewed, and I think post count is an inadequate way of assessing it. The adage "quality not quantity" springs to mind. If a person makes 100 helpful posts, or 100 posts that contribute to a discussion are they more or less valuable than someone who makes 500 inane 1 liners?

I can understand the need for piece of mind, but the current rules do seem a little harsh.

But alas, I will trudge on and dream of the day I reach 1000 posts :p

i do get a bit paranoid about selling in there!
the bumping rules change a lot and i have been caught out!

You'd have to change / update the forum, but an up-vote system for useful / helpful posts made in the various forum sub-sections would ensure the 'contributors' would be rewarded correctly, rather than just the 'smiley spammers'. You could use up-votes as an extra count towards the MM criteria.

Not really, it has took you 8 month since your last post, start getting more involved in debate, you can even disagree with many of the know it alls on here if you like :p

The comedy thing is if you had paid more attention before they changed the criteria it originally was something like 6 months membership and 250 posts (Which was how I got in the MM) so you would have qualified
 
Sometimes it's nice to see the old classic debates being resurrected from the depths of GD. I personally think 1000 posts regardless of length of membership is fine. Don't fix what's not broken.
