About to complain to my water company

Jesus guys read his post properly, he accepts its his fault, he ISNT asking for compensation, he is just stating that he is unhappy with the fact that they only gave him 3 days until they sent a notice to him, if its a polite notice then no probs, but im guessing what has annoyed the op is that it was one of those 'nasty notices'

Guys, its one of those nasty Orangy 7 day notices. I lost 4 days by it simply being chucked about by Royal Mail. That leaves 3 days.

Their online system says it will take up to 5 days for payment to go through.

Can anyone see where I am going with this, other than being miffed about the nasty notice?

I think that letter is fine, and I would have written the same sort of thing being in the same situation. What if it had been some old person who was waiting for their pension? ... Yes people should pay, but thats just over the top, and people do forget.

It's scare tactics IMHO

So you went out of the country when a regular bill was due to be paid, and instead of making a provision for this and actually paying the bill, you're trying to get some form of compensation? It is YOUR fault you missed the bill, and it is definately not a "gesture of goodwill" to pay back money you owe. That part actually made me laugh.
Some people really need to learn their responsibilties and stop whining when they get charged for not doing so.

Gotta agree with this I'm afraid.

Why not stop being obtuse, and inform us where you are going with this.

You could always try phoning them, and informing them of your intention to pay your bill.

It is an automated letter, they would probably send a further written notice if they were taking you to court as it is expensive to do so.

Paying your bill, then sending a letter of apology would be the best course of action. Throwing a strop because of your own failure to pay what you owe, implicating Royal Mail then implying that it is the Water Board's fault that you are in this predicament will not do you any favours, they are following their trading procedures, you are not. Forget what you think, get yourself out of this mess.
