As per the title: I've had enough with deleting data every week just to keep my HDD usable, and so I've invested in the 7200rpm 250GB Momentus from OcUK, and as soon as I've got a Torq 6 screwdriver from B&Q in the morning, I'll be following this guide to replace it.

So my question is: has anybody else done this? Is there anything I should keep an eye out for? Any common pitfalls?

My MBP has been my stolwart system for getting on for three years now, it hasn't missed a beat and has travelled tens of thousands of miles with me. Even after two years I still wouldn't swap it for any other laptop (even the new Unibody's - hock-tuey! *spits*) - I'm seriously scared about damaging it :( (I think I've also got a year left of my Apple Care package, so I'll be voiding that too :()

Once it's installed I'll be triple booting Snow Leopard (40GB) / Windows 7 (170GB) / Ubuntu (30GB) with any luck :)

Lots of people on here have done it! (not me, my mac has a big enough hard drive to start with) but i think its pretty simple to do, provided you have the right tools to do it (the manual specifies which ones to use so theres no bother there).

My real question is why only 40gig for snow leopard to the 170gig for win 7???

I'm a Windows fanboy :o

The real reason is that Windows suits me better for work, and it's also my general preference for day-to-day stuff. I use Linux a lot every day too (on the CLI), and I like OSX, but it was getting a bit stupid arsing about in Parallels for half an hour trying to get a Windows VM working on a clients site every other week. Added to that the fact that I can't stand MS Office for Mac, and a lot of my work is done within Word/Excel.

The only thing I'll use OSX for is iPhone app development.

[/dons flame suit] :o
