On Tuesday morning I had a good swig of some absinth from Ibza, It was nice.

However 26~ hours after drinking it I was hit with a massive head ache.

Now, I didnt get drunk, or merry, or tipsy but I dont normally get headaches as bad as the one I had.

Was this because of the absinth or did i just have a headache?

Also does all absinth taste simmalr?

it all tastes of aniseed, that being the flavour of absinthe, however i imagine you can get it with other flavours as well, not sure how that would go down though

Wormwood I believe is the ingrediant that makes Absinthe unique as I think (may be something else) Wormwood is a halocinogenic. As for headaches never suffered one but then I normally have a shot of it before I go out (70% alc and the mainland european stuff ;))

Perhaps you halocinated the headache :p

i would guess that it was just a headace, the drink woulnd on longer affect you after 26hours but still be in your blood.

To be honest am not sure what am talking about

/me waddles of to bed

Wormwood is mainly used in Vermouth (Martini, Nolly Prat etc).
Trivia corner........The Ukrainian word for Wormwood is Chernobyl (now that would explain a headache :) )

Whats the aspect in Absinthe which makes it a halocinogenic? As whatever it is it is removed from any UK Absinthe.

the inclusion of wormwood is the difference between absinthe and absinth, although i cant completely remember which way round it is
but the inclusion of wormwood was banned, and they started making it without, but it was said this couldnt be absinthe, so they called it absinth (or the other way round) but either way, not all absinth(e) has wormwood in

I bet you didn't drink it right. Apparently you're meant to drink it in a glass with ice and a sugar cube, then it's nice rather than vile, and it goes cloudy rather than being bright green.

And the amount of wormwood in it is so small it is meaningless.

quite - you would be dead from alcohol poisoning FAR before getting any halucinogenic effects from any absinthe bought legally in the EU (and most places i would assume as the content has to be that high!)

Wasn't it banned years ago because it caused brain damage?

Only good for one thing, mix it with sugar until its gloopy and set fire to it - it looks like green lava :D

i muchos prefer the lower % absinthes (around 60-70%) than the higher >75% ones. you get a lot more of the flavour and less of the taste of the alcohol itself.

what really annoys me is the people that will brag about drinking "90% absinthe" thinking they're hard. why not just go drink meths?!

Anything you get in the UK or duty free is just green vodka essentially.

Dunno where you get the real deal, but LSD is cheaper.
