Absolutely sick of Sky TV's sales tactics

i'd have thought the simple answer is to cancel. if you're not happy at the price you pay then you either have to bite the bullet to keep watching what you like, and maybe then start resenting it, or quit. i quit Sky because of this and other reasons, there is stuff i miss but there's plenty so far on Netflix etc to take its place, or i just wait for the DVD. there's another thread heard purely about cancelling, seems to be a good chance of success at scoring yourself a price cut if you try it, certainly would be a better use of your time than petitions.

i cancelled years back and use freesat / freeview / internet and there is so much you dont need Sky these day

its different than years back when there was only 5 channels and the internet was slow

Because not everyone is a free loader and many people actually pay for the TV content they consume.
If they didn't, you'd have nothing to pirate.
Why people feel the default option is "steal" over paying for what I use I don't know.
what i'm i stealing ? i use a vpn.. and watch the us tv programs ..you know the ones that sky buys from the us and then charges you for ? most tv channels are free over there or if not there a hell of a lot cheaper for a subscription ...

Forgive me if this is a bit dense, but if you want to remove some services or cancel, and ring them to do so, just stick with what you called them for. Don't be a wet noodle and cave to the first tiny discount or whatever.

"I appreciate the offers, but I want to cancel/downgrade my package. Let's talk about that."

Not just that though (and not just about Sky) - one click you can usually add something on or upgrade - to do the opposite is often a mess of having to phone a number which is often not made obvious on the website and having to go through the whole motion until you finally get to the cancelled bit - it is just a drag and shouldn't be allowed but I guess it shows you which companies actually value their customers.

Hmm, I'm getting this when I click the link.

The biggest thing that winds me up over Sky is they still have ****** adverts on their premium subscription channels.

I subscribe to Sky Sports just for the F1 basically and this season we have more adverts during the main build up. As well as an advert between each of the qualify sessions. Far more than any previous season.

The only reason we have any mainstream TV provider is my wife refuses to give it up. I could happily just have a Netflix and Amazon Prime subscription and be done with Sky/ Virgin TV and not even need a TV licence.

Similarly when watching stuff like boxing on Box Office and constant adverts between rounds, it would nice to get some analysis.

I agree but its never been that hard to cancel / downgrade with sky in my experience. The only time their sales tactics have worked is when I wanted to stay with Sky but didn't want to pay the amount they were charging. Phone up, threaten to cancel, get better deal, done.

When I wanted to cancel I just said "we have already changed to virgin media and you cannot match their internet speeds and I don't care about TV." They give up pretty quickly if you don't show any desire to remain.

I was on the phone for hours trying to cancel. I was being as direct as I could be and it was an incredibly frustrating experience.
It was similar with BT. When I had to phone them to cancel for a second time I remembered why I didn't want to return to them in the first place.

Since then those memories come flooding back whenever I see a Sky or BT product that appeals to me. Never again.

You have totally missed the point. I never cave. It is the fact I do not want to spend the time talking to morons, who ineveitably drag the call out to make it hard and painful to do what you want to do. I have better things to do with my time.

Anyway, .gov have rejected the petition - So next stop is ofcom who I believe are Sky's regulator.
