Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2012, Yas Marina - Race 18/20

I'm guessing they new the McLarens were faster so pushed the fuel limit in a vain attempt to get pole.

Why would they do that? They're not racing McLaren, way ahead in the constructors table and way ahead of Hamilton in the drivers.

All they need to do is cover Alonso.

Because their strategy fails if vettel can't sprint away from the start. Their car is always set up as a lap time machine, not designed for racing closely with other cars well imo

TBH. It may be worth them changing some things in the setup now, start him from the pitlane and avoid anything that may happen in the first couple of corners.

Hmm, Vettel 28/1 to win which I can't see happening but 5/1 for a podium. I would expect Vettel to pass the green, white and red cars within a couple of laps and then the others by the first pit stops. He will probably start on the harder tyre so a podium is a possibility. If Mark is in front of him they won't ask him to move over outright but they'll bodge a pit stop or tell him he has a problem so it doesn't look[/] like he was asked to let him through.

Also, put £2 on a Vettel Podium.

We're going to find out tomorrow how good their car can be starting last. Hamilton started last and finished in the points when he was disqualified, we'll see how Vettel does in an equally dominant car.. but on a track where it's much harder to overtake.

It's better if Red Bull actually starts in the pit-lane, less chance of getting into an accident with slower cars around you and the straight line speed of that car is lacking. Do some set-up work on the car for a better chance of getting past others, mind you starting from the pit-lane in Abu Dhabi has to be the worst place to do it :D

Ferrari international assistance to the rescue! :D

I wasn't going to bother hurrying back from Letchworth tomorrow, but I might now! :)

Exactly. Red Bull's lack of straight line speed makes it very difficult for them if they can't get away at the front. I think Vettel will start to struggle once he hits the mid-runners. If Alonso makes his customary good start it could be an interesting race.

Abu Dhabi has proven its not the most easiest of places to overtake, but possible.

By the way, where do you wager?

This this this and so this. Cannot wait for tomorrow :)

I didnt watch or follow the FP lap times but I wonder if the Ferrari is any good in race trim (we know its a dog for one lap low fuel qualifying)...

They seemed pretty strong in race trim with fuel IIRC.

Might actually be a good race! :o

Well, this has certainly added a spark back into the Championship :) Should be an interesting race tomorrow to see whether Vettel is truely deserving of the WDC this year.
