Imagine if Lewis' worn tyres give up on those aggressive kerbs. This looks touch and go, ~43 laps on scrubbed hards for Lewis with a charging Max on fresh hards for ~20 laps.

In the last few laps he hasn't got 1 second closer.

LH was like 7s ahead. He would have come out on fresh tyres, not far behind Max. There is no way Max could have held LH for 30 laps.

Max will have to push past the cars limit if it gets much further without him taking much time out of the lead, likely to make a mistake or two.

Them pitting to cover Max early was the largest mistake, had mediums with huge life left in them and dropped an 8 second gap because of being interfered by Checo.

Obviously Max blew it on lap 1 but even if he got track position there he has to pit and Lewis can win on med->hard alone.

Merc absolutely blew this race is Lewis loses

Yep..another massive risk with Merc's strategy.

It would have been far safer to pit him.
