Russell certainly looks the part but I remember sitting watching Vandoorne rip up GP2 thinking he was gonna be a superstar in F1 and well we can see how that has worked out!

Best case scenario for him is putting some eye catching performances in next season at Williams and getting the Merc drive off Bottas in 2020.

Feeder series are so full of guys who can't make it at F1 you can only really genuinely judge performance in feeder series by seeing how those guys subsequently do in F1. Stroll did okay in GP2 but the first year he was 5th and none of the guys who beat him have gone on to do anything big, he won the second year after all those guys ahead left and there wasn't really any talent left in the field. If you came 5th but Hamilton, Rosberg, Hulk and Vettel were who beat you.... then you'd realise if it was a close and pretty competitive 5th, that might be a pretty good driver. If you're 5th behind Mehri, Stroll, Ericsson and Vandoorne, after seeing them in F1 you realise that guy in 5th sucked.

There are other things you can see in feeder series, like Ham's drives where he spun iirc early on and had to come through from the back the pace was undeniable as was his moves, the cut backs, the getting a driver to defend the wrong side the going around the outside or the opposite. Just judging from "oh he won F2", doesn't tell you much because if the competition sucks so might the winner.

Williams will be odd next year, another rookie we don't really know about and Kubica, unknown how he can do and Williams, how bad will it be next year?

To be honest I think it would look as bad and go down as badly as Russia! Pat Bottas on the head and give him a win for being a good boy.

If you're gonna do it they really ought to rig some pit strategy to at least make it look like a deserved win.

So. Hamilton in the lead. Bottas manages to keep vettel behind. Last lap. Hamilton lets Bottas win?

Glad I'm not the only one to think this, even looked at sky bet earlier for a bottas win but was only 11/4.

Suggested it to my dad earlier but he thinks Hamilton wouldn't do it but I think he might as it's a massive psychological thing to have over him and the good press he would love!
