Quoted for truth.

Well im sure thats true, but then Accenture has 3 divisions, which one is your friend in? Secondly, im not saying its 100%, but certainly a 1st gets you noticed, you have to try harder with a 2.1 and then a 2.2 you might as well forget it.

The entry requirements are a 2.1 anyway, they bin 2.2 unless you have some extraordinary tallent.

Not only have I worked at Acc, I worked with a graduate recruiter and knew 2 very well also, this is simply passing on information.

Dont shoot the messenger, but i'd bet on it being accurate.

Tosh tosh tosh. Most firms are far more interested in a 2:1 student with a more rounded uni life (many societies, volunteering, places on committees etc) than someone who has focussed purely on their studies and got a 1st.

Under IT,

You also want SCC

OpenPSL wouldn´t be amiss either, they provide consultants to work under resellers own brand and don´t deal direct with end users themselves.

An overview of how ´the channel´ works woiuld be good too (Vendor-Distributor-Value Added Reseller-End User)

I can see where you are coming from and to some extent it is true. A company such as Accenture looks for a trend of skills and evidence. These skills are essential especially in Consultancy as this particular division is not easy to get into. Firstly they want someone with brains (First/2.i) - obviously this is also not a huge indication. A 2.ii from Cambridge who also has years of experience might still get offered a job. Its a matter of deciding between person A who knows everything about a particular subject without a rounded uni life, or B who is not that hot on a subject but is a well rounded individual. Some companies go for the person A.

There are some companies where they don't entirely care too much if you have good uni life. They just want the best person for the job really. Programming or very technical roles are the obvious ones.

Oh and congrats on the offered. Would be surprised if you didn't get through. Now this is were it gets very tough :)

Yeah what you've said is basically what I was trying to say, albeit I didn't put it as well. The companies look for brains, but that's not the only thing they are after.

I wouldnt agree, for 2 reasons

a) we use to use them for customer support as they required 24/7 4hour fix, you were lucky if they responded in 4 hours

b) everytime they went out to our customers I was present and the techies I spoke to were not happy with the way they were treated by management.

As far as I am aware no one has a 24/7/4 fix. Most reputable companies can provide 24/7 x 4 hour response, but not fix. It's not possible.

Well I can´t vouch for the services you recieve - you should refer to the SLA you have with them in order to see exactly what level of service you've paid for.

If you arn't paying for a high level of service you won´t recieve it!

I only suggested them as they are the largest privately owned company of their kind and a re resonably important in the UK IT channel, often acting as a transparent reseller for the likes of HP, IBM, EMC etc etc

They also provide data centre and consulting services as well as ISP like services on a large scale.

I work for CSC....its not all bad!! :)

If you get your base location as the royal pavilion its a lush place to work as well lol.

24/7 4 hr response NOT fix is the norm but you can get 4 hour fix. You just pay a tonne of money for the privilege. It usually covers the cost of completely replacing a server/system/whatever if it goes down.
