Right, I sold off my old half decent (but broke!) PC but kept the SATA HD as has pics, music, vid's and the like.

I bought a SATA docking bay...

The problem is when I try to get into My Documents on the drive I get access denied due to it being passworded I guess.. (not that I get prompted to enter one)

I have googled for answers, tried taking ownership of the drive, and a few other "tricks" that simply don't work.

I'm guessing there's probs a "hacking" tool to get into the device, but as yet - no joy!

Any advice appreciated, cheers,

N.

When you took ownership, did you also tick "replace owner on subcontainers and objects"?. You also need to go to the permissions tab and do the same...

As Nanobot says, make sure that option is ticked (depending on the amount of data, it could take a fair few mins).

Recently had a similar issue.. but it was some idiot at work who decided to use remote shell on my PC and remove SYSTEM and EVERYONE from C:\.... took about half an hour to take ownership of around 80GB of data lol

I hate NTFS permissions.... so utterly insecure and pap.
