I just got a new rig with new HDD etc....

I wanted to retrieve data from my old HDD which still has XP on it.
Hooked it up, i was able to retrieve things in program files etc... but i couldn't access my folder which contains everything thats on the desktop for example "My Documents"

I get a message saying that the access is denied. Is this because i have a password for the account on bootup?

I tried booting up with this old HDD but i guess theres some kind of problem with the old drivers and new hardware. Can't even access in safe mode.

Any suggestions?

thanx

EDIT:reread the question, doesn't really change the answer though

It's more the fact that it's a different user on each machine rather than any password issue. You'll need to be logged onto the new machine OS as an administrator level ID then take ownership of the My Documents folder(s) on the old disk. It's done through the right click, Properties menu on the folder but I forget the exact steps.
