Accidents Happen!

Was playing with a bouncy ball in the garden and the pesky thing boinged in to some shrubs. I ran after it, quickly looking down in to the shrubs to get poked in the eye by a garden cane. Cried a lot, it really hurt - my mum just thought I was playing up :/

On holiday in a bed, rolled over and fell out of bed. My head hit the side table which had a glass top, my lip got sliced in to two parts so it was flapping around. My parents superglued it up (they didn't trust the local health care!) and put me back to bed. Then in the airport on the way home, tripped over a pushchair and split it open again, spraying blood eveywhere. \o/

Lol, never broken a bone here but still had some accidents.

-At 4 I played with matches, bad idea, lit my right hand on fire, now have 3rd degree burns on it, can't feel anything from the bottom of my fingers to the wrist.

-Got operated cause of appendicitis when i was 13.

-Scraped of all the skin on my left knee after falling on an escalator, took about 3 months to heal.

-dislocated my pinky on the left hand, to this day I still can't use it.

Crikey, I could sit here all day. Needless to say, I've done lots of horrible stuff to myself by accident. Dislocations, ripped things, fractured things, split things. But I can walk and I have all my appendages - lots to be thankful for :D

The most dangerous was probably running through a patio window and shattering it. That required a fair few stitiches - including a cut which from the corner of one eye down and across my nose...so close to blinding myself.

The one which brings the most "oooooohs" though is the time I was 12 and I fell into the swimming pool...and did the splits on the edge. Black and blue from my navel to the top of my crack for nearly two weeks. That one really hurt. I heard it was quite comic the way I toppled into the pool in slow motion, clutching at my privates with a face somewhat like this smiley

Fell off a horse and broke my arm when I was 16. The worst part was it was in the middle of bloody nowhere in Wales, so I had to get back on the Horse and ride to the nearest farm.

Missed one that wasn't eye related, when I was a kid I'd had the typical grazed knees as a result of falling of my bike one of which (combined with a tendency to pick at scabs) had resulted in a pretty decent scar.

When I got to uni I was playing football in goal on astropitch. Fell onto my scarred knee and slid forward 6 inches or so with my full weight on the knee. Completely skinned it and it took days to even stop weeping and begin drying up. By the time it finally healed the orginal scar had been completely removed.

Age of 3 fell off a chair and cracked my head open on the side of a table at home - 2 stiches.
A week later I pulled the stair guard off and reopened it - 3 stitches.
Doctors told my parents if I came in again they would have to call the Police on suspicion of child abuse :D

Various other quite serious bike accidents as a kid, along with various cuts scraps and appealing injuries from climbing trees etc.

Most major recent one was when snowboarding in Canada, caught a front edge, flew up in the air, and landed on my bended knee. Following X-Rays and an MRI scan I had bruised all the bone inside my knee joint. Doctors had never seen it before and thought I was a hairs-breath away from completely destroying my knee joint and needed pins/screws etc.

Nothing serious from rock climbing yet - lots of scars, and few tweaked ankles/heels - some close calls though.... :)

I gave myself a quite hideous, quite deep burn by...

er...

Spilling reheated sweet & sour sauce on my hand.

The people at A&E thought it was hilarious, the guy got his mates in to look at it and everything. All the skin on my hand peeled back, it was no fun :(

Whem I was about 6 or 7 was chasing my sister around the house, tried using a window to bounce of and run the other way, but put my hand straight through the glass. Nice 10cm scar down my arm, by all those important artery things...

Broke my nose when I was about 2 falling off a table in such a way that the table landed on me... Dont know how, cant remember, just have the widened flattened top of my nose to prove it, and my Mums stories.

Childhood:
* Run over by a motocross bike, no real damage.
* Car door opened on me - butterfly stitches on lip (still have the scar).
* ran, tripped and went head first into a stone kurb. Put teeth out of alignment.
* model propeller blade from starting a .25 glow plug engine - put a scar on the back of my hand. Serves me right for mixing my own nitro with meths fuel for a bit more power!
* burnt my fingers putting gunpowder into a copper pipe and then putting in the gas fire - sounded like a gun shot, luckly it didn't take my fingers off in a masterly demonstration of darwinian award winning talent.

All this year:
Jan - Snowboarding off-piste leaving beautiful trails down the virgin snow.. right up to the crash site. Got severe whiplash but it only manifested itself the next day. Didn't stop me later that day going out landing badly on an ice run where upon landing I elbowed myself in the ribs right over my heart - popping the head of the rib and ripping the tissue between. I spent the rest of the holiday in the chalet on my back having to roll off the bed or couch to get up. People at work wondered why I was walking and moving very slowly!
Was to grade the next week for kickboxing - no chance!

May - fell down stairs with a glass bowl first thing in the morning. I wasn't drinking that night. The bowl shattered against the wall onto the stairs before me as I then bounced down it on my bum and hip. Blood on the towel but I thought it was minor cuts. Had a shower and then felt some seriously deep gashes. Proper stitches on the deep ones, glue on the others.. and I couldn't sit or bend for two weeks - a week off work too.. rumour at work is that I was dead, then downgraded to just hospitalised.
No kick boxing for a while...

June - almost hospitalised due to a tooth abscess. An old root canal opened on a flight to iceland, I then visited the blue lagoon and surprisingly it got infected - I spent the next day on pain killers and got the sale (:D) flew home then straight to the out of hours doctor who prescribed me serious pain killers, anti-inflam. etc. Lucky to be alive as the infection had started to close my air ways. Luckly the abscess was pushing so heavily against my tongue it naturally got thined the skin due to rubbing on my tongue. Later was doing my teeth (couldn't open my mouth to eat but what the hey) and the tooth brush popped the abscess that was going down my throat etc. 20 minutes of spitting vile puss etc out and I could breath etc. Took a week before I could open my mouth wide enough to get the tooth taken out.
Then to add insult to injury - passed a kidney stone two days after flying back - spent the next week in beyond agonising pain (almost passed out due to shock).
No kick boxing for a while..

Sept - serious tendonitis from canoeing and slightly pulled ligament in my foot (trekking). I could hear my tendons squeak as I opened my hand!
No kick boxing for three weeks..

So I find myself almost a year on and still on the same kickboxing belt!
I've just started back to the advanced classes after getting fit enough to attend them.
Perhaps by december I'll have graded (I would be 3-4 belts further up than I am now!).

Cycling at full-speed adjacent to a bunch of kids from another school, I was busy daydreaming of what I might eat once I returned home. Therefore I was completely unaware that one of my feet had slipped from its pedal and was flapping around in the wind. The next thing I knew, my dangling foot had somehow made contact with the front wheel of the bike, rapidly conveyed forward and firmly wedged between the top of the forks and the wheel. The result: deceleration from ~20mph to 0 in around 0.1 seconds. After a spectacular somersault over the top of handlebars (and then some) and what seemed like ages, I came crashing down chin first in to the road. Instant KO. The bike, having been exposed to such high levels of energy, was also catapulted and came to rest on my head/back after its own brief display of aerobatics.

I woke up a few seconds later find the other kids pointing and laughing at me. Such sympathy! I somehow managed to drag myself home. Miraculously, I only suffered bumps, cuts and bruises... I think I was fairly fortunate.

I came off a skateboard when I was younger and smashed both my knees up - still hurts to this day but I have made them worse since by having various accidents. As a result, my left leg is no longer straight and I cant walk briskly for more than about 15 minutes without being in severe pain.

I smashed one finger at the knuckle in a sledge hammer accident and then broke it again with some others just after it had healed - result I now have fingers that aren't straight and hurt lots when it gets cold!

I fell ~12ft into a metal post, smashing my eye socket and cutting my eyelid all the way through...

I have damaged the muscles in my neck so I no longer have full ROM.

Have also torn most of the ligaments and stuff across the tops of my feet, broken both wrists, one arm, damaged my shoulder, damaged ribs and probably more that I cant remember.

Put a pair of scissors through my hand when I was a kid. Put a stanley knife through my thumb when I was a teenager. Nothing yet as adult...

i've added to my drunken injuries this weekend. bruised legs from pole dancing. jumping on someones shoulders then them slipping in the rain, dumping me on my shoulder. i then proceeded to jump onto a bench, slipping and falling on my hip.
bruises everywhere. awesome weekend bender though

God, how are some of you still alive?
I've never done anything too serious, broke my thumb twice and cracked a rib snowboarding, came off a horse and damaged my lower back when i was 14 which still causes me pain now and painful joints. No stories of woe.
