Ok, I got delivererd 2 shiny hard drives today...

now they feel like they have been stored in one of the curriers vans over the weekend. They are very cold.

How long do you think I should leave before using them?

I would wait at least 1 hour at room temperature, and then check to see if any condensation had formed on the metal parts of the drives case. If the drive feels damp/wet then check every 30 mins or so. Once the drive has no hint of wetness its probably ok to use it. (dont actually try to dry the disk if its damp, as the dampness will go away on its own once the disk is at an acceptable temperature)

Leave the H/D's in their wrapping (leaving them on a worksurface will just increase the condensation buildup) and leave them for a good five or six hours to really get to room temperature and for any condensation to have evaporated.

This is what we do with camera gear (even longer depending on the temp difference).

Kae.
