I presume that the plasterer just did a skim rather than completely re-plaster judging by the sockets and trunking....

Are you planning to do anything further to conceal those?

It was just a skim, its a rented house. I didn't want to pay for a full replaster in a rented house. All cabling will be hidden underneath the skirting boards (getting new skirting fitted) so speaker cable will be hidden under there. Gunna use powerline adapters for networking.

Think you got it mixed up, you mean it has been re-plastered but you did not get a skim coat over the top of the plaster. ;)

the cost of the room is far less than buying a house
The plasterer charged me £140
The work to remove the wooden panels/wallpaper was zero - took me 3hrs time that is all.
Decent feature wallpaper from ebay will be around £30
Backing paper for 3 none feature walls = £15-£20
Paint £15

New skirting boards (if I need them = £50)

Show me a mortage / house I can buy with a deposit of £205 or £255!

Yes admittedly I don't have the money for a house deposit, but wanting to have a nice living room with a nice entertainment system is morally and finanically wrong now is it?

I will also point out that I spent £75 on paint to repaint all the other rooms in the house including the ceilings - this is 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dining room, hallway, stairs and landing and the kitchen. Should I have not done this either?

Not much will happen for a while now. Got to wait for few weeks for the plaster to dry properly and waiting for the case/psu for the HTPC.

Speakers and TV are sat boxed still awaitng the room decorating.

Sorry Ace I do not mean to be rude but why do some much work when this is rented when least half the cost covers a deposite on a morage?

Dude, what drugs do you take, seriously? Also how much do you know about buying property? My guess is next to nothing! When i bought my house all we needed was 10% so that worked out around £16,000 and now with the market the way it is, most lenders want more, some even upto 30%!
I wish i had £16k to kit out my living room........

the way i see it is if you know ur gonna stay there a few years and its makes it comfortable for you to live then why not.

trust me, what your doing there is nothing compared to what my brother and I have done in our "rented property"
build log will be made soon!!

Ace all i can say is you will not regret doing it my brother and i as said above have done something like this in our rented house (i knew i would get pulled into doing a build log lol)
at the end of the day don't matter what other people say plus it keeps your relationship with your landlord good you look after the house he will look after you !!!!

anyways if you need any help or advice let me know and i will be more than happy to help ......

Yesterday I painted the ceiling with 2 layers of paint.

Strange paint... It's white, but goes on pink then dries brilliant white (so you can see what you have and have not done easily)

Also got all the glossing done. Painted the door frames, skirting boards and wiindow sill.

Glossing is done. Just need to wait a few more days for the walls to totally dry out.
