Acer Revo RL100 hardware photos

i thought that i would make a new thread as some were asking if the RL100 would run with 8Gb of Ram, which i am glad to say it does:cool:

and it does make quite a difference, now if i could only manage to get the latest graphics drivers to load things would be great.

Here is a link to a web album, of some internal photos and a few remarks and things to note.

Thanks, would you recommend it as a HTPC to run xbmc off? Been considering building my own but the costs were just going through the roof!

EDIT: Also would you recommend this or the RL70 for around £100 less?

i have not tried xbmc as i didnt think that it played blue rays??

i have been using the Clear fi that comes on the RL100 which to be honest is a lot better than windows media center and deals with blue rays and 3D blue rays:cool:

im not sure how much the RL70 is but the RL100 cost £199

Hi, great post, after seeing this I’m very interested in taking mine apart to help its performance.

Can I just ask what you want by “it does make quite a difference”

I’ve been disappointed by my system (3Gb version), only used for catch up telly (BBC i-player / channel 5) playing full screen to a 32” 1080i telly (output at the recommended native computer resolution - think it’s along the lines of 1366x768 pixels but not 100% sure)

Find streaming on channel 5, and playing off the HDD once recoded (HD) via the i-player desktop are both jumpy (LAN connection @ 10mbps internet). Odd as did little test and live TV and DVD are perfect.

Updated to latest Nvidia drivers and used the crack as already suggested to get it installed.

Currently trying to kill off all background app’s & usage (firewall, wi-fi etc) to try and help things along.

I don’t suppose you considered any processor upgrades, as reading online there are a few concerns over this, again reading online and the K325 is a 12Watt so it could not go too high however?

Anyway, now to order the 2x 4Gb RAM, DDR3 PC3-10600 • NON-ECC

Thanks again for the photos……

thanks for the link and its good to see that you guys can get it to work.

But im have tried this method numerous times and failed on each account.

when i download the latest drivers i get an .exe file thus i cannot extract the file to find the .inf file which needs to be moddified prior to installing. or have i got this wrong.... do i need to moddify the current driver before trying to install the new one???

i think that i did try to moddify the existing file but the computer would not allow me to moddify it due to privilages.... as my system seems to be securely locked out. Even through DOS prompt.

I have thought about reinstalling windows to be able to moddify the file but i dont really want to lose Clearfi and some programmes on my system which need to have large files downloaded & i only have 1 - 1.5meg internet connection  thus i dont really want to be downloading for a week again lol.

any pointers on how to get the method to work?

Hi guys

I have a bit of an issue....and hopefully...one you guys will be able to help

The Background...

I bought one of these... back in Nov 11.
I never set it up till Nov 12... (yes.. warranty over...)

I bought it as a one stop solution to Blu-ray / Media Center...and tv recording

I never liked (or should i say.. got) Clear.Fi nor got it it working properly.

I tried everything to playback Movies that I had converted from DVD to MP4 or MKV and recorded TV over the 1gb Wired network...from my NAS to this player... tried all different codecs.... and everything else to tweak.

Screen was set to Full HD and output to Onkyo Amp and onward to the 55 inch Samsung TV

What I was getting.. was every now and again.... playback would become stuttery...then go back to be ok for a while...till it did it again.

Let me explain further...The film/movie would play...and sound/picture would be constant...but the only thing is.. the picture would appear to be dropping frames in playback....(On WMP 11 or Media Centre) and picture would appear to be stuttery...then all of a sudden.. it would playback fine again

This is not a network issue...as even if I copy the movie locally...it would do the same.

In the End.. I decided... a wipe and re-install the Revo to Windows 7 64 would be best... and re-installed the OS as bare as possible...and only installed KLITE Mega pack

The issues I have...

Playback is still the same

No longer able to play Blu-Ray as no Clear-Fi

Don't want to use XBMC as I can't use the 2 additional DTV tuners I have added

Don't want to use anything but MCE...as I have all movies and TV sorted and organised using MyMovies

Ideal solutions....

A. If someone can please send me a ISO of the restore disk for putting Revo back to factory and I can then re-try to sort it out from there/keep as a fall back solution if:-

B. If you guys have managed to find a way to make this work on MCE and not be a total pile of pants and just a pretty one inch high device under my TV

Thanks for reading

To get the Driver to extract from EXE to get to the INF to edit....

http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract

Download.. and install.
Then.. right click on EXE and choose Uniextract to subfolder
It will then expand the exe to a folder...with all files and folders intact...

Edit away! :)

many thanks for the reply harvSingh, might have to leave work early to see if this works:D.....

No longer able to play Blu-Ray as no Clear-Fi

( i had a problem with clear-fi at first as it wouldn’t play certain blue rays. Firstly i deleted Clear-fi and downloaded the latest version from acer and installed it onto the revo as the original version always seems to hangup when updating after trying to play an blueray. For a while it still carried out about 4 updates but after that it was fine and is probally the most complete player i have tried.)

Don't want to use anything but MCE...as I have all movies and TV sorted and organised using MyMovies

(To be honest i have never been able to make MCE work on any pc i have owned. How are you watching MCE on the tv, is it just via a HDMI input? I use a programme called Twonky to stream all films from the revo to my xbox seamlessly with perfect sound and picture. Although i did install 8GB of ram which seemed to help video playback a lot and a cheap upgrade)

OK... I need help...

No Probs... I'm glad you got it working. (That Uniextract is the best thing ever!)

I however, am still struggling

I think I need to try one last attempt with the original restore of Windows

I have W7 Ultimate 64 installed stripped bare...and will take image of this before wiping (so I don't lose this licence key)

I want to try it back to default...and see why it is just not behaving

Can anyone please ISO up the restore discs and put them up into my dropbox/FTP?

Also.. I am considering using the Linux route...and give that a try.
I'm just sick of the fact... I have a machine that says it can do it all..but fails so much at delivering

Anyone with the original discs?

Do you have a Link for this? - I have had a look...and the Acer site is listing none!

Can you also tell me which Ram you fitted...as I will give it a go...but at the moment..its really doing my head in...and i'm thinking of getting a Alienware X51 and yes... this would be sooooooo overkill...but right now... I just want to fix this movie playing issue...and be done

Worst thing is... I use a Cyclone HD2...and it is playing anything I want over the LAN...100% perfect...regardless of format/bitrate/resolution... mkv/AVH-HD 1gb-15gb..720p-1080p...NO PROBLEM FOR ANY! it will even play the ISO's I have on the LAN...or even personal family DVD's

Only issue is.. the menu is soooooooooo Windows 3.1 ...its a joke.

I even thought about getting a mini Android MK802 IIIS...and throwing XMBC onto it...and see how that works.....

Right now.. I just want a tidy small media player...with the front end I can use...and works....with ability to record from my two usb HD tuners...play discs that I put into the front.. be they original dvd's...or blu-rays....(not bothered about 3d as don't have a 3d tv) and that's it.

Thanks.. but this does not re-install Clear-Fi Application to handle Blu-Rays...its like its a Clear-Fi Client?

I think because I have done a Vanila OS install... it just says..don't like it...
(on first install...it asks to remove?...then run again.. and it installs...but still.. nothing when I put in a bluray....)

:(

With clear fi have you tried up dating via the programme its self in the settings? I might have a copy at home of the various drivers. Also my clearfi would not update untill i put in disc that it had troble reading.

Have you tried acer updater? First link above

The ram was Komputer Bay 10600 ddr3 4gb chips from the river

Thanks
I've ordered the ram... and will see if that helps... but No.. The app seems to be more of a CLear.Fi Client only.. (if clearfi is running on another device)

If you could create the restore ISO discs..I would really appreciate.

Are they the default restore? or are they the ones to just recover your config also? (ideally I just want the default ones...so I can rule out anything else...and see how it works...I will even put it onto a nippy SSD)

Thanks for your help
