** Acme [Akagi] bought a pink estate car - E30 325i project log! **

Technically Eunos is the manufacturer, if we wanted to call it by its correct name it would be "Roadster" because the manufacturer is "Eunos" (a subsidiary of Mazda) and the model is "Roadster".

So calling it a Eunos is like calling a UK one a Mazda.

So we're all wrong. Now what. :p

lets just settle on miata.. ;)

Sigh.

The MX-5 was/is manufactured by Mazda. The fact that it was badged as a Eunos Roadster in Japan or a Miata in the US doesn't change this fact.

If you're in the UK and you call it something other than an MX-5, most people who don't have specific knowledge about the car will go "huh? what's that?". In the US the same will apply, but substitute "MX-5" for "Miata".

We're not in Japan, so we call it an MX-5, whether it's an import or not; they're exactly the same car. It's not like Toyota vs Lexus.

They aren't "exactly" the same, there are differences in spec etc.

In Japan, it was built, registered, and sold as a "Eunos Roadster" not a "Mazda MX5" - so when it gets imported to the UK, it is still a Eunos Roadster. Yes it may be almost identical, but it isn't identical.

Just like if you import a Toyota Altezza, it doesn't magically become a Lexus IS. Its still a Toyota Altezza. ;)

But a Lexus generally has a totally different interior, totally different body panels, a different range of engines. The Eunos Roadster is literally an MX-5 with a different badge. That's the only difference. And the spec varies between models from the same region let alone across the different markets, so that's a completely irrelevant point. They are the same car built by the same people in the same factory!

Eunos even sold a couple of Citroen models under their brand name in Japan. They haven't done any re-engineering. It's just a badge.

I thought the Eunos had different final drives in the diff?

Not that I care enough to research it, but I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

It isn't literally the same, they came with different options, different diffs, in some cases even engines which were subtly different to those we got here. Different interior options, different paint options, different wheel options, etc. ;)

The MK2 Eunos Roadster could come with a 146HP engine which we didn't get here, for example.

A Toyota Altezza is literally a Lexus IS with a different badge, but it isn't one. :p

A Nissan Primestar, Renault Traffic, and Vauxhall Vivaro, are all exactly the same vans, but they aren't each other. They are what they are.

The way I see it is the way it's sold in the country it finds itself. Here it's sold as an MX5, so to me it's an MX5. Doesn't matter where it came from or where it was built, it's an MX5 just like every other MX5 on the road. Calling it a Eunos doesn't make it a different car, it just makes those who call it a Eunos look desperate to claim every last particle of street cred to the 0.00000001% of the population who actually give a toss, at the cost of looking like a complete idiot to the remaining 99.999999999%.

Edit: What he said ^

They did. There were other things not available in the UK market, too, like leather seats and air conditioning (AFAIK). But this doesn't change my point that they're the same car, built on the same production line.

They. Are. The. Same. Car.

I'm not sure why this is such a difficult concept to understand.

All they did for the Japanese market is alter the available optional extras and stick a couple of different badges on. You can probably get different engines and drivetrain configurations and option packs for a BMW 5 series in Germany. That doesn't change the fact that it's the same car!

The van comparison above is the same but different due to the way they are marketed, and appear to be manufactured in different factories.

Stating that your Eunos Roadster is most definitely not a Mazda MX-5 is just silly. Sure, they're badged differently, but that's it.

I understand perfectly fine that you think they are the same car even though they're not but they are. Lets just leave it there, this is being horribly derailed again :p

You can call Eunos Roadsters Mazda MX5's, and I'll continue calling them Eunos Roadsters, and we can all be happy.

It is the same, but I go from what it was sold as and what it was badged as, rather than what its called in the country where I live. :p

Yup same here lol! I'm surprised that people get so upset about something as simple as that :D be it the same car or not lol. Nothing to do with street rep lmao, I just call it eunos roadster because that's what it is, like it or not lol! It doesn't make it better or cooler in the street, anyone who cares enough knows the difference anyway.

I swear this thread is about 10% actual Touring content, 5% discussion about the Touring content, 40% random ideas and hyperbole around ideas that never happen, and 45% absolute unrelated babbling. Makes it pretty difficult to willfully come back to, especially when all you want to see if project progress.
