*Activity/Fitness trackers*

I recently had the Blaze Gunmetal. 1st one I had wouldn't last longer than a day and was faulty. The second one just randomly stopped checking my steps here and there.

Tried a Samsung Gear S2 whilst I had a Galaxy S7, junk. Very little ecosystem for it otherwise would have been a decent smartwatch.

I currently have an Apple Watch which so far has been superb but I would describe it as a smart watch/fashion accessory despite Apple's attempts to market it at the fitness crowd.

When I change next I'll be going Garmin.

Had the Fitbit Charge 2 for a few months now and can't find anything particularly wrong with it. I've still decided to sell it on purely because with my cycling and using the Garmin connect app i've gotten annoyed with having the stats across multiple platforms. I've used Jawbone, Garmin, Samsungs S Health and now Fitbit.

Next one on the list is a Garmin Vivoactive HR

It is great with all the apps and strength app. I pair it with the premium chest strap for workouts. Battery lasts a week and a half probably closer to two weeks for me. Had it since the end of September.

I think the garmin is the way to go, I'm fed up with my fitbit, it's just not that good, and I'm on my 3rd one owing to the strap bubbling and breaking, and it really is woefully inaccurate.

I think I'd like a wrist one with an HR monitor for when I'm out about, walking (i do a lot of walking), but with the option to pair it to a chest strap for when I'm in the gym.

That was my thinking to, I already have a chest strap that I use with my Garmin Edge when biking so it seems like a no brainer to me.

The whole competing with family and friends on fitbit (main reason why I did it) regarding steps is a novelty that wears off fast.

I'm in the same boat.

I'm on my fourth one, and that has major bubbling now too.

I use Garmin for my main cycling stats, so it would be good to keep to them. It's a shame I have the fitbit scales too though, which doesnt easily link to Garmin (I have to do it via MFP at the moment)

Is the Vivoactive a good bit of kit? (I would only really need the Charge HR equivalent)

Personally I never cared or pay attention to steps but calories burned. My goal is always trying to get between 3000 - 4000 calories burnt in a day.

Yet I always read so many are so obsessed with all these huge step goals. I had even read so many Fitbit users don't like Garmin because they don't get the steps as they did with Fitbit. Heck you can ramp up so many steps by grooming your dog. Can't do that with Garmin. You have to work hard for it.

I've managed to order a Garmin Vivoactive HR with a price promise match and got it £143 :) It's an XL though but the straps can be bought for a fiver off ebay so not too fussed.

Arriving tomorrow.

I've got a Withings Steel and have had it since Feb last year and find it good for general steps tracking and sleep tracking in addition to the smart alarm, but I'm looking to upgrade to the Steel HR for the heart rate monitor in the near future.

It's looking to be a good year for fitness trackers though with more and more being made to look like watches rather than prison/fitness bands of the old

Vivoactive arrived, got it setup and definitely need smaller wrist strap. Although it fits their is a bit to much excess sticking out.

Screen is clear not quite as bright as i'd hope but a firmware update has let me set it brighter, though it warns you about the battery usage on that one.

Been a walk at lunch and recorded all my steps fine, the swiping on the menu system and the amount of data you have access is brilliant. I doubt i'll need to reference the garmin connect app/website with it being easily readable on the device.

If I manage to drag my carcass out of bed in the morning before work i'll test it with a run and some weights at the gym.

Hmm, which part do you measure? My wrist is 16cm. I like to wear them just above the bone.

I thought it was quite clear even with the backlight on 1.

I have it about 2 to 3cm below the base of my hand, sits below the round honey bit. I'll see how I fair with the replacement strap.

Now I've had it a few days I've found the screen to be great in all but dull rooms even then it's nitpicking, I'll have a play with dropping the brightness. I'm amazed how good the screen is in normal light and when you're outside in the day.

I'm really happy with it and might just be a keeper.

Quick update on Vivoactive HR

I've replaced the Xl strap with an ebay variety and actually feels a lot better.

I even like the colour!

Finally got around to going the gym, it's been so long I actually couldn't remember the last time i'd been. Tried running (if you can really call it that) without heart strap and then rowing plus some weights with the heart strap

Treadmill walk/jog using Wrist HR
Rowing 1000m using Chest HR
Weights using chest HR

Chosen a detailed watchface I really like, giving me all the info and then some at a glance, the red graph is my Heartrate over the last 4 hours.

Starting and stopping an exercise is literally go button, tap exercise, go button to start. Stopping is go button, save exercise then review yes/no.

Very easy!

Also impressed how the always on display is easy to read at glance while exercising. Coming from a Fitbit it's night and day in difference.

You should get the glass/thick plastic screen protector. Its amazing how that thing can get so many knocks. Especially from door handles.

It doesn't interfere with the swiping. Think it is Kimilar I'm using in the gold packet.
