I've just tried CSS stress test, at 1280x1024, 16xAF, 4xAAA, and compared to 4xAA, there is not much performance drop.

I got these results:

No AA, 227
4x AA, 180
4xAAA, 178

Just wondering too, could anyone test with some other games, and possibly do some G80 comparisions, 4xAA + SS?

Yep ATi boosted Adaptive AA 500% compared to the old drivers. It's actually useable now. I get no hit with Performance (Multisampling) in Oblivion @ 8xAA :D . Go try it!

oh well, guess the 2900 needs it the most. :p

is adaptive AA the ati version of nvidia's transparency AA? wonder how nvidia managed to get it to work with next to nothing of a performance hit

Only installed my 8800GTX and Vista today so still trying to find my way around :( but here are results for 1 test...

1280/1024 265.80fps x4 MSAA
Not sure how to change which AA I use due to the new NV control panel :o
Hmmm...
Just used RivaTuner to set TSAA x4 and got 265.01

Nah Adaptive AA is just Multi/Super sampling

Ok I've tryed all 3 now...

Settings were
1280/1024|16AF
No AA =268.12fps
x4AA =265.80fps
TSAA x4 =265.01fps
For the fun of it...
1920/1200
Q CSAA x 16
16AF
=158.62fps

Hope that helps lol :p

Edit
Specs might help also

Dude you need to run 4xAA then select Supersampling it's in the NV panel somewhere you can select Multisampling or Supersampling. It's a drop down box iirc.

hold on, i just tried this, enabled adaptive AA and set the slider to performance mode, then ran test drive unlimited, DIRT, and battlefield 2.

in TDU and battlefield 2 the only difference i see is the leaves on the trees and bushes/grass and other foliage seems to be cleaner looking with less jaggies.
and in battlefield 2 the chain link fences don;t seem to break up and look distorted.

didn;t notice any difference in DIRT.

as for performance there was no different in speed, fraps shows at the most a 2fps drop in tdu and battlefield 2 but overall fps is around the same as without adaptive AA. thats odd since when i last tried adaptive AA on the 7.4 cats it took a performance hit of around 9fps and image quality is no different. dirt ran the same.

odd this.

anyone else got any results?

edit: in all 3 games 2xAA was used.

Ah! Got it :o
MAA x4 =267.54fps
SAA x4 =265.80fps

meh...w/e lol

dunno, will have to take screenshots and do some hardcore analysis. too lazy to do all that crap though :p

well as long as there is next to no performance drop i may as well keep on using adaptive AA.

I might just start to use 4xAA Supersampling from now on..

AAA had some weird effect in TDU

8800GTX@Stock 162.50 drivers

244 - No AA
239 - 4x Multisampling
234 - 4x Supersampling
218 - 16xQ CSAA Multisampling
216 - 16xQ CSAA Supersampling
153 - 16xS AA Supersampling
53 - 32xS AA Supersampling

Did everything in ntune more or less.

Edit: 1440x900, everything in CS:S maxed, 16xAF and all that.

Edit2: BTW for most my tests I had FPS_MAX 300 on accidently, so if I did them again could possibly get some higher numbers on a few of them, oh well it's enough to compare the AA hit.

Yea Will I suppose they are still perfecting the modes hence a few problems in some games. WoW has problems with Adaptive AA also..
