Adblockers

I use Adblock on every site i go on except Youtube.

I watch a lot of content on there and majority of people I watch content from have it as their source of income, if myself watching a 20sec ad for 30mins of video helps the user to create more content I enjoy for free then thats fine.

Think how long you watch TV shows and how many ad's are displayed on that! Plus you pay for licence fee on top. IIRC The walking dead is "1hour" long show, around 15 mins is adverts (inc that dam joop ad) with 45 or less for the actual show. basically 25% of an hour long show is for adverts.

so the 30 sec for a youtube video seems quite good in comparison (most vids I watch are 20-30mins) especially when you can skip in 5sec.

The people who use adblock probably don't have any ads on their TV shows either ;).

"Allow some non-intrusive advertising" - That's the only option I use with AdBlock Plus. I don't care to see other ads that are more annoying and ruin the content layout of websites because they take up so much space.

Make ad panels non intrusive by default and we would never need ad blockers. Their own fault.

Same, and agree with this statement. Popup windows, particularly those with sound effects made me install ABP in the first place. Recently extremely obtrusive advertising on video sites also ensure that I continue to use ABP.

I contribute yearly to a website that relies on donations so have no issue with paying for a site if I like it.

I absolutely detest ads. I run a rooted phone with ads blocked, firefox with adblock and I pretty much avoid tv now and just download all my shows.

I have a WDTV Live player and was gutted when watching a YouTube video to find it played an advert first. That'll be going out the window if this keeps happening. :(

I'm not a fan of ads. If I use my ipad to view a Youtube vid and it shows and ad before it starts playing it, I'll watch something else and watch it later on my PC where the ad is blocked.

In my view, running an adblocker is akin to fast forwarding ads on a TV show. Is skipping those ads immoral too?

Have been using AdBlock+ for years now, adverts are dead to me. Also use Ghostery too.

yup, both these applications should be default downloads for everyone when they install any web browser. I wouldn't be without them now. The amount of tracking cookies that Ghostery blocks is ridiculous. 23 is the most I've found on one website. I even went as far as throwing Ghostery a couple of quid as a thanks for the software.

Indeed people say use Chrome bla bla i say no, My firefox setup is tighter than a nuns private parts. Nothing can get past this unless i allow it and for example Youtube i just need to allow the two Youtube related scripts and the site runs. Under default youtube will not even play videos nevermind adverts or skype widgets that run here on the OCUK forum. And no Youtube adverts during or before videos just instant streaming.

Adblock plus
Ghostery
No-Script

Most YouTube videos are utter tripe posted by narccasstic morons.

Try finding documentaries about battles and use the filter to see how much this RUINED Youtube with every kid with a Battlefield video and Minecraft video. Unless you know the channels or exact titles it takes hours to find little golden nugets hidden among the vast swathes of pointless videos. Youtube needs to be split into Youtube and a Gaming Youtube.

Block. And on the rare occasion and ad slip through ... well I couldn't tell you what the ad is as I ignore it by reflex.

30 sec YouTube ads that can't be skipped = Back Button clicked. Though saying that, it's very very rare that I stumble across and ad that can't be skipped nowadays.

Remember those flash adverts that yelled things at you when you accidentally rolled over them?

That was my tipping point. I block everything now.

I block all ads too and don't see it as immoral. Ads annoy me so much anyway that I ignore them when they are there. In fact with them there I am more likely to just not use the website if they are intrusive. I also use a tracking blocker and noscript to block tracking/ad scripts.

Only time I wouldn't use an ad blocker is if it is against the ToS and I have to sign in sine I don't wanna be banned. :p

I also record TV programmes and skip though the ads. They are getting really bad now with some breaks lasting 5+ minutes.

Why does the Adblocker keep disappearing with Chrome?

I am sick of ads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't had a problem with it disappearing.

I block everything, certainly couldn't use YT without Adblock.

Lol at people who purposefully sit through the adds. Are you for real?

Heh, record, stop record, record.

There's another annoying word. Immoral.

I honestly have no idea how people have managed to push adverts and morality together in to one sentence. There seems to be a trend lately to try and apply morality to things where it just doesn't fit. It's weird.

I would suggest professional help to anyone who considers blocking corporate ads as immoral.

I block absolutely everything. In a similar vein, I don't watch live commercial television so as to avoid advertising.

There is a case to be made that a very small percentage of amateur YouTube content providers deserve some level of remuneration for their toils. However in these instances, I would consider donation as much more viable (and moral) method of ensuring that they can continue with what they do. I have done this myself twice (donating $30 and $50).

The majority of YouTube is filled with blurry camera phone videos\copyrighted stuff\corporate stuff\people playing videos games. This is fact. I don't tend to watch any
of it.

It makes me laugh when people say if you block ads then the content you enjoy will disappear and that content creators are entitled to money.

If they rely on such intrusive adverts to keep their content flowing then that's their fault not mine.

I pay $5 a month to support Giantbomb.com, and get the odd bit of premium subscriber only video content and it is well worth it.
