Adding a second IDE HDD for bulk storage etc. Connect it to DVDRW IDE or other HDD?

In other words, shall I connect it as a slave to the DVDRW (on primary IDE) or the C Drive (on secondary IDE)?

Basically don't want to slow things down in transferring data between drives and more importantly not slow down data TX to the burner while burning.

Any advice appreciated. :)

Depends really

Personally - I just bought an external USB2 enclosure for £20

If you don't want to do that... :)

1. If you want to burn stuff directly from the drive then have it as a slave on the same channel as your main hard drive

2. If you don't intend on burning files from it, then have it as a slave on the same channel as the DVDRW (I.E not on the same channel as your windows drive)

It doesn't really matter that much, your gonna have drawbacks whichever way you do it...It shouldn't slow anything down in any case. Except for when your transferring stuff between 2 devices that are on the same channel (Which you will be whichever way you do it at certain times)...

BUT - if you are burning stuff from it - then it is essential that it does NOT go on the same channel as the burner - it will more than slow things down, it will cause constant buffer underruns and wierd CD\DVD writing behaviour.

If you have a SATA controller then just buy a SATA drive but I assume you ain't or you wouldn't be asking ;)

hope that helps

Thanks mate, from what you say, it will have to be on the same IDE channel as the C drive as I will most definately be burning from it. :)

I have a sata controller but this drive came up at a good price. :)

Put it together with the other harddisk, it will not be a lot slower as the harddisks are slower than the max transfer rate of the IDE connection.

Putting it on the IDE cable with the DVDRW can give you problems when burning from that harddisk to the DVDRW
