Adding another 480

Hi guys,

I'm nearly set to put my WC kit all together, just wondering, with the prices of 480's so damn low now, I was looking to possibly get another one to SLI them up.

My question is would I require another Radiator in order to keep acceptable temperatures? Or would the single loop be just fine cooling 2 480's in SLI both using FC480 waterblocks.

PC Spec is in sig.

WC Kit consists of:

EK FC480 - Copper/Acetal
EK HF Supreme - Acetal
EK X2 Advanced Res 250
HW Labs GTX360 Radiator
Swiftech 18w MCP355
3 x Scythe ultra Kaze 200RPM 120mm Fans (Don't want to run these higher than 1500RPM though)

I do want to keep my system quiet, and don't plan on overclocking either the card or the CPU any further than what they are currently at (although I may tamper with the 480 clock speeds a little :P)
Many thanks!

should be fine on the same loop but would be better with one just for the cards.....those 480 are pretty toasty im told.....worth trying first and seeing what you get then making a call depending on temps...could always use the rad you have for dual 480s then get a h70 or h50 just for the cpu?

ps get another 3 fans for that rad so its push/pull...that will make a good difference to your temps.....get fans with good static pressure...i use noctuas

Yeah I think I might do that, I'll be picking up 3 sharkoon silent eagles to go along with the scythes. I'm wondering if there'll be enough space with 6 fans, as I don't really want to have 3 fans mounted on the outside, but if the temperature and noise performance is ok I guess I can do it :)

if you get the right fans in push/pull you could have 2 x 480 and your cpu no probs...check your choices spec for static pressure though it makes all the difference

I had nearly the same set up but with one 480 and temps were good. So with those fans and another card you will be fine

if not i would not make another loop just get a 120 rad and you will be good to go

this if you have space for a 120 somewhere you should be fine. As for fans im running Fat (38mm) yate loons and have found them to be great for RADS

I was wondering then, as I'm a bit new to the actual mechanics of watercooling and such, what kind of static pressure should I be looking for to get the best kind of performance out of my radiator?

a lot of the specs on fans dont show you the static air pressure info...check out this thread you should find it helpfull.... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=18500837
my next build im going to use 38mm fans instead of 25mm.....some of the 38mm fans are quieter because they have a lower rpm but better static pressure and considering im planning a 560 rad and a 360 rad plus anywere between 7-14 fans this will make a difference to my rig......

That's a lot of rad. Why not use 2 480's instead of a 360 520

Thanks for the info, I just had a brief skim over it but will go into it further later on when I get bored again at work heheh. I think I might switch my choice over to the Scythe Gentle Typhoon's, which apparently have great static pressure and are dead quiet even at max RPM.... win win!!! :D

Will probably pick up 6 of these and use a push/pull config.

because im getting a dangerden tower 29 and they can take either a 480/560 (depending what you tell them you want) 560 in my case plus a 360 that fits in the bottom...i want a 560 plus a 360.....im planning a super rig with tri/quad sli or crossfire/quadfire......and 3 x 2560x1600 monitors :D ....cant wait to do the build log for that one ;)

holy bejeebuz!! You gotta post pics of the work log when putting that beast together. Would love to see it.

i certainly will with bells on mate....poss wont be till nearer the end of the year when 1. i have sorted my finaces out and 2. lga 2011 platform comes out and 680gtx/7990 ;)

Indeed, although I have been told that my PSU should handle the 480's and if it doesn't, I'm not too bothered about possibly upgrading my PSU to something like a 1100W or something for future proofing.

your psu will be fine mate..its an enermax...best psu's you can buy

You can fit a 560 in your case that's one big case. Going to be a nice rig that. Going to cost a bit but not going to need a upgrade for a while
