Having decided that sandybridge doent offer thatmuch of an upgrade from my x4 phenom i waswondering if i should get an ssd? I have no idea about them ie how it will work with my os and if i should install win7 on my ssd and my steam games , or just the os? And use my hd forgames how would i work it and what would you recommend ? Cheers

Yes, yes and yes again.

one of the best bits i have ever bought and put in my rig. In fact, i actually now have 2 in there (not RAID set up, just 2 seperate drives).

i have W7 64 HP on the 1st along with Office 10 Adobe CS and EVE. The second one has FSX and what ever game is my fancy at the moment (currently Dirt 2 and F1-10) Have sammy 1tb for other storage stuff (least played games, movies, music, phots etc etc.

Not sure if the newer drives still need this, but when you build your new system (add the SSD) ONLY PLUG THE SSD IN - leave all other hard drives unplugged. Once you are up and running in Windows, then shut down, power off and add any other hard drives that you may be adding.

hope that helps you some

Cheers m8 what size drive should i look at

A 30 or 40GB is fine for normal OS / Apps, after that it's entirely down to how many games you want to fit on it, and whether you have any special application needs that like a lot of fast disk space - like video editing. I like having my games on SSD, but it's quite a lot of money just to save a few seconds on the load screens, Can be a godsend for games that have a lot of load screens though :) . It's up to you if you think that using up ~£15 worth of space per game is worth it.

You'll also want to have a mechanical drive in there for your bulk media storage and for the games you can't afford to move over to SSD. Running two mechanical drives in RAID1 is worthwhile considering how inexpensive they are. It's not an all-singing all-dancing backup solution, but protects you from a drive dying, which is by far the most likely way you can lose data.

I have a 64gb SSD (60GB USABLE) can store Windows 7 64bit, metro 2033, left4dead 2, just cause 2 and other applications - still have 12GB left

64gb is fine unless you install a lot of games, so I went for the 80gb intel

Installing an SSD has been my best upgrade for a very long time.
