I'm thinking of adding a usb 3.1 pci card to my pc. I currently have usb 3.0.

I'm getting a galaxy s10+ and want to buy a 3.1 usb flash drive and external hd for backup purposes.

Firstly will the upgrade be worth it? I regularly run a batch file that backs up to 2 internal hd, then external usb hd drive and then some stuff goes to a usb flash. I would hope usb process would be a lot quicker with usb 3.1. Also copying photos from my phone I would hope to be quicker with usb 3.1.

Secondly I have seen some usb 3.1 pci cards that are 2 x type a, 2 x type c, or 1 of each. Which of these would be better?

Thirdly I have a nzxt h440 pc case. Is it possible to change the front 3.0 ports to usb 3.1?

Thanks in advance.

I would guess that your existing transfers to the external drives are limited by the drive speeds rather than the interface. Changing from USB 3.0 to USB 3.1 isn't going to change that.

What bremen said. Plus, we need to be clear about USB generation labelling (moreso than ever now). USB 3.0 was relabelled USB 3.1 gen1. What was called USB 3.1 is USB 3.1 gen2. Honestly I don't know if you'll surpass USB 3.1 gen1 speeds (5Gbps) as that's approaching SATA 3 max bandwidth. So i guess if you used an SSD which can saturate its SATA connection maybe... Spinning hard disks? Forget about it. You're talking 100-150MB/s maximum even if internal. Your existing USB protocol is fine.
