Hi, I apologise if this isn't considered to be appropriate discussion, but I was reading an article earlier and it kind of shocked me, and was wondering what you all thought about it -

The most prominent, and longest-living direct descendants of Adolf Hitler's father, Alois, was his nephew William Patrick Hitler. With his wife Phyllis, he eventually moved to Long Island, New York and had four sons. None of William Hitler's children have yet had any children of their own; by some reports, this is by mutual agreement, to put an end to the Hitler bloodline.

Those children living today are in their 50's/60's. Maybe it's old news, but it's the first I've heard of it. Perhaps I should have payed closer attention in my history classes. :D

I question the source as I don’t believe anyone could be as moronic as to think their bloodline carried some magic “evil gene”.

This is totally true i read it on the back of a crisp packet. :D
Seriously there was a documentary on this family although they refused to take part there were a lot of people from there small town in it.
They suffered some mishaps in early attempts at relationships and haven't bothered since now stating it's to wipe out the genes.
I should think being the closest living relation to AH is a hard cross to bare for most.

anyhow, yeah thats true, read it before. perhaps you should have paid more attention but i doubt that would ocme up :)

You're right, but my history teacher would always go into semi-irrelevant stuff. :p

That information was from Wikipedia, other descendents changed their names, but it's the direct ones who hadn't.

If it's true that they agreed to end the Hitler bloodline, I think it's a bit sad really. They have no reason to take any responsibility for what their dad's cousin did.

Wasn't Hitler quite a common name before ww2? Can't blame people for wanting to change their name afterwards though.

Apparently im related to Goebbels(sp?) in some really remote way. My family traces back to the Ebbels family, and apparently Goebbels means 'belonging to the house of ebbels' Our familes also trace back to the same part of Germany. So im personally sorry for whatever my very distant ancestor did.
