I'm currently on Nildram but looking to switch ISPs with them been taking over by Tiscali. I've got a few questions though regarding ADSL24:

Current Line Stats

Upstream 288 kbps
Downstream 2272 kbps
Noise Margin (Upstream) 27.0 db
Noise Margin (Downstream) 32.0 db
Attenuation (Upstream) 15.0 db
Attenuation (Downstream) 32.5 db

1) Will there be a noticeable difference in pings between 2Mb and 8Mb?
2) Can you check your usage (30Gb/300Gb)?
If they do...
2a) How often is it updated?

Our monthly period for Nildram is:

Start 12 July 2007 - End 12 August 2007

When would the best time to be to ring to get MAC Address? Preferably so we don't waste any days of usage prior to the switch?

Can't really think of any more questions at the moment but feel free to give me any advice regarding them as will be switching soon :)

Thanks in advance,

BeatMaster :D

Pings will not differ noticeably due to the speed change but obviously Entanet will have different routes to some places from those used by Nildram so expect some changes there.

There are several ways provided for you to check usage, from memory it is updated once a day.

It doesn't matter all that much when you ask for the MAC, it matters more when you ask to be migrated.

Nildram will start a 30 day notice period running from when you ask for the MAC so if you elect to be migrated out before the end of that 30 day period you will be paying for 2 services during the overlap.

You just need to make sure that you ask for a delayed migration when you order with ADSL24 and specify a date close to the end of the 30 day period.

The MAC only has to be valid when you place the order, not when it completes so np there.

Once you have migrated contact Nildram to make sure that BT have told them as well as it doesn't always happen as it should.

They will then calculate any refund/charge that is due depending on where you are in the billing cycle at that time.

At 8mb interleaving may be switched on which causes a rise in latency of about 20ms but gives more stability. From the stats there you're line should so 8mb stable and interleaving can probably be switched off with no problems.

Does ADSL24 give you a choice to whether you can have it on or off? I know some companies won't turn it off and some also charge for it to be turned off aswell.

Interleaving can be turned on at any speed, it is not linked to 8Mb in any way, just to the error rate on the line.

By default is will be set to 'Auto' which means that the BT systems can turn it on if they find it necessary.

You can have it turned off if that happens but you would need to consider the implications as it will help the stability of your connection at the cost of a slower ping.

Ive been with them for just over 1 month and I love them :D

O the home 30 package, great pings etc, support is second to none :)

I understand that, was just trying to keep it simple.

Like teal said it is just a form of error correction which helps stability and will generally allow it to connect slightly faster for longer lines which do not make the full 8mb. You can ask it to be turned off with adsl24 free of charge and it should be done pretty quickly.

As for stability your line stats look good so there should be no problems. If your lucky the BT equipment will leave it off anyway but something like lightning causing disconnects can trigger it to be turned on.

I would get your MAC code now and use it at the end of the month.

Beware that MAC key != MAC address. Migration Authorisation Code versus Media Access Control.

Oops thats my fault :o

Looks like I'll be making the switch especially with happy customers :) Apparently only 770 metres (as the crow flies) to the exchange so that could explain stats. Got a new router too, Billion 7300G which I'm quite impressed with although the light for the 'ON' status doesn't illuminate but not to worry :)

Thanks everyone for your help!

Do it ,turn interleaving off , if you don't like it asked for it to be turned back on it takes 24 hrs tops to do so no bigger if things go a abit wrong , ask james over ADSL24 for advice he'll sort it for ya ;)

I am with ADSL24 and I am very pleased I migrated from BT. I sent an email asking them to turn off interleaving, and within a few hours it was turned off.
