Advent calendars - What have you got?

A few years ago, a customer went up to me on Dec 17th asking if we had any advent calendars left. Why ask this a week before opening the last door? I remember the date as its a colleague's birthday. We usually sell out Nov 30th/Dec 1st, Mentioned this customer to the birthday girl. Her response was why and FFS.

You should contact BBC or C4 to do a fly on the wall thing at your work... I'm amazed (not really) at the shenanigans that happen there.

Was also looking for a beer calendar - agree they're usually way overpriced so wouldn't normally bite, but saw this at £30 and thought it was worth a punt: https://www.beer52.com/craftxmasBF
Word on the street is there's a few beers that have been in the recent monthly boxes so might not be worth it if you already to subscribe to their club thing.

Looks like you get one each of:

Northern Monk American Porter
BRLO Stout
Avaans Brune
Stone Buenaveza Lager
Gweilo Brewery Cali IPA
Bald Birds Cream Ale
Magic Rock Brewing Dark Arts Chocolate Stout
Two Chefs Brewing Decennium Falcon Double Funky Falcon Pale Ale
Fierce Beer Fiercely Sublime BIPA
Stone Go To IPA Lavery
Gold Leopard GABF Gold
Magic Rock Brewing High Wire Orange Blossom & Mandarin
The White Hag Hopstravaganza DIPA
Carlow Brewing Irish Lager
De Molen Op & Top Pale Ale
To Øl Orbital Movement DDH IPA
O/O Brewing Porter Porter
Funk Brewing R&D IPA
CoolHead Brew Rabbit Pants Black IPA
Winding Path Slight Bend IPA
Aegir Bryggeri Sumbel Porter
Stone Tangerine Express Hazy IPA
Siren Craft Brew Totality SIPA
Yeastie Boys Tropical Brainstorm
That's a great price!

The problem with beer advent calendars is that it means the beer is unrefridgerated for up to a month. That's fine for some beers but IPAs and the like really shouldn't be left out at room temperature.

Bottled beers are fine at room temperature, how do you they think they're stored after they're made, while they're in transit to shops and while they're on the shelf? Plus, most ales should be served just a few degrees below room temperature, not from the fridge.

Not an issue with my scampi and bacon fries though ;)

If you buy from a decent brewery / bottleshop, IPAs and similar beers will spend very little time outside the fridge. Cloudwater for example even do cold chain distribution, something that is relatively common in the US craft beer world but hasn't really made its way over here yet.

I was in the Wedgwood visitor centre shop last week and hey have an advent calendar for £695. You get a Wedgwood ornament each day. Bargain.

Only about £694 overpriced

Cheers for that I've had a go and we'll see, did beer 52 a while back and the beers were a bit samey but for a one off will be ok

Yeah I took a punt on it too, not tried Beer52 before, my go to is Flavourly.

I bought a packet of scampi fries on Monday at the pub....have they changed their recipe? It tastes like nuclear waste or something strong. I swear it was more sweet and savory before, when i say before, like 10 years ago.
I've just opened the first door packet of scampi fries and they don't taste any different to how I remember them.

Nivea advent calendar for the Mrs
Wera 2022 calendar for me
Revolution make up calendar for the daughter
Pokemon calendar for my son
Random dog calender for the, err, dog....

We like to keep up the tradition, my Mrs and I both have found memories of all the excitement and family gatherings at Christmas and its been nice to do this for our kids

I'm literally doing my Xmas James Bond-a-thon right now, aiming to get through the entire collection and end up with the last one on Boxing day..

I know, sad... but you only live twice, err, I mean once..

Used to get my lad the lego star wars ones - they are still sealed several years on.

Wife and daughter would get amazon and clinique ones. But these are nearly £100 each.

Can't afford that this year, so we've all got lindt ones.

Well this didn't go down well at all! Wife and daughter will be getting Beauty Advent calendars delivered today at £70 each.

I won't be making that mistake again.

Just ordered the Next one for wife and daughter; Elemis, MAC - should get me some brownie points and out of the dog house.
What was wrong with the next one?

Lilith is not impressed with her pooch and mutt advent calendar.

Maddie loves them so she eats Lilith's too!

I have seen the most gorgeous wooden dog calendar on fortnum and mason but at £100 I just couldn't afford it.

It would last year on year and I could fill it with treats that I know lilith would love.

Maybe it will be in the sale at some point!
